Mary's Story
Hello all! It is really great to see all of you here! I moved with my Mom to Pacific Grove (Monterey Peninsula)when I was 15. What a beautiful place, and so different from L.A.
I went to high school there, and actually graduated from H.S. in Renton, WA, where I lived for a few months. It was funny, I was "The California Girl" there!
I returned to Monterey, went to Monterey Peninsula College, transfered & moved across the bay to UC Santa Cruz. I graduated with a B.A in art & also psychology.
I lived in Santa Cruz till 1982, then moved to Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico, for several years. While living in Mexico, I worked for a company that sold and installed satellite dishes. I traveled all over the Mexico, met many people from all over. I guess you could say I brought MTV to the third world! (That was a good thing in the 80's!)
I returned to California, and moved to where my entire family had relocated, to the area around Auburn, CA. It's very beautiful here, we have the canyon, rivers, lakes, we are close to Tahoe, & about 40 minutes to the snow.
I worked as a graphic artist & designer, learned Photoshop & other programs when computer graphics became the way to get things done!
I met my current husband, Charlie, in 1993 in Nevada City, purely by accident, since he was only working there for a couple of days.(Lucky me!) We are the same age, born in '53. We have a wonderful, funny, intelligent and tall (6'3") 14 year old son named Erik....Expand for more
He is starting High School next week.
I was always interested in psychology, and did some social science research for a couple of years. Some of the studies involved incarcerated youth. After that experience I realized I really wanted to get involved with helping youth and others, so I returned to school, and got my M.A. in Counseling Psychology from the University of San Francisco. A great Catholic institution! (Jesuits!)
I always thought it as funny that I started in Catholic school, and ended in Catholic school!
I have recently been working as a therapist at a local residential drug & alcohol rehab. I love doing art therapy, especially with clay. I am starting a private practice soon. I have worked with dual Dx teens, victims of dometic violence, and substance abusers. I really love my work!
My son & I do lots of fun things together, we go to Santa Cruz & Lake Tahoe often, hike around our many rivers, we like to work out, swim, and just generally hang out together. (I am the Mom who is always taking him & his friends fun places!)
My husband is a talented guy, a professional Land Surveyor, and a great guitar player. We have a nice little family here in the hills.
I love to garden, have lots to water, plants are my only addiction! I work with clay, I read a lot, & have 2 beautiful Siamese cats, (one of them weighs 24 lbs!)
Wow, this has been fun to write!
I'm looking forward to hearing from everyone!
Much love from Mary Ebert-Robb!
