Mary's Story
Life
Where to start? Married to a great guy for over 32 years...met him at the curling club! Have a fantastic (I'm biased, of course!) daughter who earned her Doctrate in Clinical Psychology (she has a BS in Psychology with a minor in Physical Anthropology from the UW). She now works for the state of Oregon with people in the legal system who have been deemed unable to aid in their own defense. She's a wonderful young woman with lots of friends. Plus, a home I love in north Seattle.
School
Would I do it all over again?? No way! For the most part, I loved Highline, but I have no desire to live my teen years again. My 20's were MUCH more fun! ;-)
What I remember most about high school is sitting in the school cafeteria with my friends and just talking and laughing. Or, being in Mr. Myers class and discussing Greek & Roman Literature or World Short Stories...and having Mr. Myers go off on a tangent about something he had experienced in life. Those were fascinating ...Expand for more
classes. The most embarrassing moment...senior year, TOLO...dancing, stepping back and catching the back hem of my dress...and having the spaghetti-string straps snap! I DID manage to keep the top up as I raced off the dance floor dragging my best friend with me! LOLOL!
College
I attended the University of Washington after graduation as a Slavic Languages & Lit major. I didn't end up graduating - that's what happens when you have to work 40+ hours a week & try to go to school fulltime as well. I hated not finishing but needed to get out on my own more. However I will never forget walking around that beautiful campus...and the cool Astronomy classes I took...and the Psych class I dropped because we had to implant electrodes into rat's brains at 8 a.m. in the morning! {gag!} Plus, hanging out at the Hub waiting for my friends...or meeting then candidate Charles Royer who was running for Mayor of Seattle. I'm still a dyed-in-the-wool Dawg...I bleed purple & gold! LOL!
