Mary Lee's Story
Life
What have I done with my life? Graduated in '63. Attended Delta College and Central Mich Univ. Graduated with BS in Math and 2nd Teaching Cert. Taught HS Math for 1 year and then moved into the computer programming field - been doing it ever since and love it! I have worked for several major companies in some nice areas of the USA: Unisys Corp in Indianapolis, Chicago and Denver; Denvr Water Board in Denver, CO, NIKE in Beaverton, Oregon, Kellogg in Battle Creek, MI, and now the State of Cal in Sacramento.
I was married for 27 years but have been a widow for the past 8 years. I have a daughter, Sara, who is an elementary teacher in Florida. She is definitely the sunshine in my life! Right now I live with my cat, Smokey, in an apartment in the Sacramento area.
I moved to Winter Haven, Fla a few years ago after selling my home in Battle Creek, MI. I have a condo that I rent to my daughter and also a small house in a great retirement community. Right now I am living in Rancho Cordova, CA working for the State of Cal on what I hope is my last work assignment. The house is rented out but will be waiting for me when I return, which should be sometime next year. I always wanted to live in a resort area and my home is about 25 minutes from Disney Land, so I guess you could say that wish has come true!
I am active in the Lions Club and belong to a club both in Florida and out here in Sacramento. I like to visit the mountains in summer or winter (skiing) and the beaches (luckily both Florida and Cal have them!), and do any kind of traveling ...Expand for more
available. I've been lucky to have lived in such great areas where I could visit the surrounding states and see so much of the USA. I still have Hawaii and Alaska on my list to see sooner than later. Also the northern Atlantic states of Maine, Conn, NH, Vermont, etc. Then I can start on Europe or Australia!
I always liked art in High School and minored in art in college. I still like to draw and paint but my true love is doing stained glass of all kinds: sun catchers, windows, boxes, stepping stones, and mosaics. My latest project was a mosaic water fountain. I also like decorating my new home and yard altho that is on hold while I am out in Cal.
When I get back I plan to design a hummingbird and butterfly garden in the back yard. Then I can sit out on the lanai in the mornings with a cup of coffee and watch the birds and butterflies and also the water birds in the pond behind my house.
I think the highlights of my teenage years were related to attending SHS and especially going to the football and basketball games, the library to "study" (check out boys?), and cruising thru the drive-ins on Fri or Sat nights. We definitely had a great era to grow up in! I wonder what ever happened to Bob H. and Bill S. I know what happened to Stan M. and Sue C. as I saw them at a class reunion a few years ago. Been hoping Kathy F. would write a note and Beth B.
If you are reading this, please send me a note sometime and re-introduce yourself to me. It's been so long since I have seen anyone from High School. I'd love to re-connect with you. Mary Lee
