Mary's Story

Well, here I am in the hot dry state of Texas, in the even hotter drier city of Richardson,( near Dallas ). Honestly I wish I had stayed in Windber. Are big cities really that exciting, nope just bigger.. my dream was to live in Maine, very near a lake with my German Shepherd/wolf mix ( that would take a lot more ability to control than I have ). I am more of a small lap dog person. But, hey it is my dream. Almost made it to Israel this last summer, but my mobility is quite curtailed. It might have been my last chance, I don’t see things calming down anytime soon. Married 57 years, two daughters and four grandchildren. I live near two of the children and I sometimes feel as if I am going through those teenage years again. So far Hannah is a junior at Kansas State, Johnny will go to Oklahoma State, and Holly will attend Arkansas. Abby is a sophomore at John Paul ll high school and a candidate for designation as a Presidential Scholar. Really proud of these youngsters but I am glad they are grandchildren. Hard to keep up with them. I look and feel younger, ...Expand for more
but pushing being ancient is a reality. My family home was sold last year and I feel really sad about that. No one but My family ever lived there and I am not happy that someone will walk where I did. My husband gifted me a framed picture of my house at Christmas, he is so thoughtful. I feel peaceful when I look at it. I remember Autumn and the five mature Maple trees on the property ablaze in color. So many memories. Who else remembers lipstick hazing first week of high school as a freshman? Speaking of WAHS, I saw pictures of Windber Area High School. Who ever approved that monstrosity administration building? Less than four hundred students go to that school, but rip up the beautiful land to put up a new building and parking for a few secretaries and principal. Probably could have removed the asbestos from the original building for what it cost to rip up the lawn and build new. Oh well I don’t live there, but I do have wonderful memories. Take care folks .Just had to add that the photo with someone’ bruised arm is NOT me. Tacky photo, tacky person
