Mary's Story
Life
I graduated from Kennesaw State University in December 2005. I currently teach Life Science (7th grade) at Tapp Middle School.
I got married on December 18, 2004 to the greatest guy in the world, David Teren.
We met 6 years ago this past New Years Eve. We should have known on our first date when we both had garlic rolls and didnt care. hehe
I am still best friends with Brandy Gunter. Except her last name is now Brown. She got married to Nathan Brown on May 24th, 2003. I was her Maid of Honor. She repayed the favor as my Matron of Honor ;-p
Life has changed a lot the past few years. I have a new appreciation for life. It is way beyond fragile. My Dad, Owen, died July 23, 2004 at the age of 56. Since then I have had to put down three dogs; Our fostered Whippet, Alex, our Greyhound, Bandit, and other is my childhood dog Butch, who was 15 years old. I have also had 2 friends die. On the other hand I have also had friends have children. The balance of life is amazing.
On September 27, 2007 - 10 days late - I had a beautiful little girl that David and I named Julia Leigh. I can't, for the life of me, figure out how I have such a beautiful little girl! I am truly blessed!
I hope everyone is finding happiness in their own life and hope to see you at our reunion.
School
If you need help remembering me: I had long hair, glasses, and wasn't by any means skinny.
I was a second soprano in the advanced chorus, or "Show Choir", and an honor roll student/graduate.
My best friends were Brandy Gunter-Brown and Pam McClure. I was also good friends with Desi Frazier, Dawna Farrell, Cheryl Bando, Stacey Chambers, Kim Wright, and Ryann Sprinkle. (I miss you guys!)
I actually miss everyone and hope everyone is well.
BTW: whatever happened to the 5-year reunion our class agreed upon?
College
I grad...Expand for more
uated Cum Laude from KSU in December 2005. I majored in Middle Grades Education; subject areas of science and language arts.
I chose middle grades because of 2 reasons: one being that they were the worst years in my life and the kids would have a teacher who could relate to their misery ;-p and the fact that I want to be where I am needed and can be beneficial.
I originally started school at Gordon College as a pre-vet major. Then I realized that although I was used to not having a life, I could not handle not getting any sleep.
Since I loved microbiology I changed my major to that, with the intention of someday working at the CDC. However, while I was at Georgia State part time (I worked FT to pay rent) in the middle of a molecular cell lecture, I realized that it wasnt what I wanted.
So I took classes at a satellite location of Mercer U. on becoming a web designer/webmaster since it was a hobby anyway.
Finally, I stopped fighting a childhood wish and I worked towards getting back in school to become a teacher.
Side things I did at school were: chorus, working on literary magazines, and various other volunteer tasks.
Workplace
First job was at Winn-Dixie. I worked for that company for three long years.
My next long term job was at a company over by Perimeter Mall called Federated Insurance. I worked there for 3 years before quitting to go back to college.
Jobs in between included Customer Service at SteinMart (Town Center), Hostess/Cashier/Waitress at Denny's (Barnesville area), Waitress/Bartender at Malone's Bar & Grill (Perimeter Mall area: aka Olde Mill Steakhouse), Bookseller at B.Dalton (Perimeter), Personal Assistant to a Marketing Rep and Ex-Mets pitcher Jeff Innis (PT after hours at Federated).
I currently work FT as a Science Teacher at Tapp Middle School in Cobb County.
