Mary's Story
The question/answer section here is limiting. To describe my job I had to say either that I raised animals or I caught animals. The fact is I care for them. I am a dog handler at a daycare boarding facility near my home in Southern California.
I didn't start out working with dogs after I finished school. I went into office work and spent most of my adult life doing legal billing. As I got older though, my patience with the system...Expand for more
lessened and I ultimately decided to do something that made me happy.
The pay isn't much and the job is physically hard. You don't need to have a degree to work in a kennel, but it helps if you love animals and appreciate the satisfaction of an honest day's work.
I have also been studying to be a pet dog obedience instructor, but my goals have shifted during the course of my studies and I am looking into other areas of interest.
