Mary's Story
In Porum, I grew up in the big white house across the street from the Methodist Church.I still love that house and the storm cellar where I would watch someone play basketball! I have many memories of elem. and high school (Junior High seems like a blurr!!!) Of course my favorite teachers were Mrs. Harrison, Mr. Maxfield, Mrs. Brockman, Mrs. Stewart, Mrs. Moore, and Mrs. Patty. Friends, Donna Pratchard, Betty Lawson, Lois Hamilton. The Senior trip to Missouri was unforgettable. Friends were made at Connors and Northeastern State: Pat Kelly, Sandy Sparks, Gary Neely,Steve Bowden. I went immediately to Many Farms, AZ to teach on the Navajo Reservation for 2 years. That was a wonderful experience. I see many former students's names ...Expand for more
at this site. Then I moved to Albuquerque and taught at the Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute for 2 years, and the Public Schools for 17 yrs. Stayed in Albuq. and have been here for 37 years (wow, seems like a long time). Married for 7 years and divorced for 27 years. Two fantastic daughters with 2 children each. One has 2 daughters and the other has a boy and a girl. While at the Univ. of New Mexico, I was part of a special program from 1972 - 1974 which enabled me to earn a graduate degree. My advisor was Dr. James Everett. Other professors were Dr. McDowell, Dr. Van Etten, Dr. Gonzales & Dr. Billie Watson. Now,simply enjoying my grandchildren, reconnecting with old acquaintances and traveling back and forth to Okla.
