Ann (Mary)'s Story

Hum? Well..I live in Carlsborg, the last place I thought I would ever live,... and I love it. We have a rental Cottage called The Lightkeeper's Cottage. So named because I was a Lighthouse keeper on Destruction Island for several years. I manage the cottage and the guests. I just had two young women from Israel and it was wonderful meeting them and hearing their story. We have guests from all over the world and I learn so much and always feel so grateful for where I am and the freedoms we have here. We have lots of fruit trees and flowers and it all keeps me busy, just the way I like it. I am in great health and keep fit with a strong yoga pratice. I have three kids, a truck driver, a student, and a Lawyer. The kids are doing well and I am a Grandma five times. I still write poetry and love to go dancing. We have a hybrid car and have had it for almost three years, I recycle and all the things we should to keep our world for the next generations. I guess I am a little boring but I keep myself entertained. How I hope people remember me? That I was always kind, I still am but on a far greater scale. I was also very shy and quiet, I got over that! I am also very loyal to my old friends and I don't care if they are or not. Oh yes, in my former life I was a counselor. It was the worst job I ever loved and the best job I ever hated. It was hard work but I feel so good when I run into an old client and they tell me how tough I was on them and how grateful they are now. I live close to Sunny Farm and my gue...Expand for more
st in the cottage just love to shop there. We introduced a doctor friend to some friends in Scotland and they went to dinner together. When they ran out of wonderful things to say about us one of them mentioned shopping at THE Sunny Farm, in Carlsborg and had a giggle about having a conversation about that store in a beautiful dining room in Scotland. Life is great. I just came back from Westport WA where I gave a talk about being a Lighthouse keeper on Destruction Island. We had a standing room crowd of 65 or more and it was a really good time. There were retired Coast Guard, Forest Rangers and lots of folks who just love Lighthouses and the folks who took or take care of them. I am being urged to write a book about my adventures. It sounds like work but iti is a part of history. I was on Desturction Island when a helocopter landed and a very elderly man was taken from the back of the chopper and caried to the lighthouse. He knew he was not going to live long and his dying wish was to see the Lighthouse once more and to sign the guest book. I was so proud of the pilot and copilot as they gently carried him down and the pilot carried him back. He was cradled in the pilots arms like a large child, his head lulled against the pilots because he was exhausted and spent. They gently put him in the back of the chopper, covered him up and took off for places unknown it us. I am so proud of our military people and the things they do for us. I saw history that day on the island and the crowd loved the story.
