Matt (Matthew)'s Story

Life Wife Johanna and I have three kids between us, and a great foster kid who came to us in 2003 -- all adults now. Daughter Sara works for Buchanan County; Son Thom with the Sheriff’s Department. Stepson Steve begins a new chapter working for Royal Caribbean Cruise Line’s Theatre Department; next assignment cruises the Spanish & Mediterranean coasts. Foster-kid Trey is now married. Sara married Jimmy Brewer in 2009; they have a son and daughter; Thom and Karen Clement married several years ago and have two sons. Now that the young'uns are grown, wife Johanna and I (married in '91) are rediscovering Quality Grown-Up Time, taking occasional day trips and outings, just the two of us (Love the Central Coast, Sierras, and Lake Tahoe). Living on Bethel Island, in the Northern CA Delta. Retirement agrees with us. College Missouri Western State College: switched majors at least twice ;-) Attended Methodist Medical Center School of Nursing, Saint Joseph. Taught Radio Broadcasting and Production classes at Unilex College, San Francisco. Adult Literacy tutor, "Project Second Chance". Screen Actors Guild "Book Pals" classroom-literacy project volunteer. Member/former Archivist, San Francisco Regional Mensa. Member, Intertel. Workplace 2008-present:: Elected to the San Francisco Screen Actors Guild Council. Seen in industrials for clients such as Novartis. 2009: AFTRA Convention delegate. Served for seven years in an elected capacity for my Union; just completed my last term on SAG-AFTRA's San Francisco/NorCal Board of Directors, and continue to serve on Local committees. 2006-2008: Chairman of the SAG/AFTRA Conservatory committee, conducting monthly programs at San Francisco State. You can spot me for a few seconds with Will Smith in "The Pursuit of Happyness" (at least in the *wide-screen* DVD version!). My dulcet tones have been heard in commercials, such as Macy's and Meridian Chardonnay. 2006: Appeared as a plainclothes cop in an episode of the ABC Television series "The Evidence" (unbilled: if you blinked, you probably missed me!), with Orlando Jones and Rob Estes, and can be seen as a juror in an e...Expand for more
pisode of "Final Witness" again on ABC. 2005: Stepped out in front of the camera -- Film debut as "Baron Romero" in the short *Saint Agnes' Eve*, released on the indie-film-festival circuit; Seen in industrial films for clients such as Sun Microsystems, and heard on nationally-broadcast commercials. Early 1990's - present: TV/Radio Commercial/Industrial Voice-overs for such clients as Boston Market, Levi's, Coors/Zima, Franzia Wines, Avia Shoes, Rollerblade, AAA, Windows OS, and many others (anyone have the old "Lotus 1-2-3 for Windows" tutorial CD-ROM? I'm the voice of the little "Magician" dude). Late-1970s - mid-1990s: Radio Career, Began and ended in News/Public Affairs, but mostly as Production Director and midday air staff, beginning with the old KUSN, and at KKJO in Saint Joseph, MO; Hosted the "Lifestyle" and "Open Line" talk shows. Moved to California in 1982, working at KWUN (for old KKJO boss Greg Everett, who passed away in 2008) and "KISS-FM" in Concord . Was one of a handful of air-staff on-air, in the Bay Area proper, in the minutes immediately following the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake, after major stations -- including all three San Francisco "Emergency Broadcast" alternates -- were knocked off-air. Taught Broadcasting classes at "Unilex College", San Francisco. . Cast in various roles in the Francis Ford Coppola-Directed "Zoetrope Radio Drama Workshop". Last radio gig was News Director at KKIS, Concord. Many Stage appearances during that time, in productions such as "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest", and "The Hollow". Mid- to late 1970s: Retail sales at the old Messanie Street Sears store. Early 1970s: Hospital Orderly at Methodist Medical Center. 1969-1970: Swung a mean mop as part of work-study program at Missouri Western. Early 1960s: First job weekends, as a kid, helping Dad and uncle in a small trash-hauling business; also filled in on sick days and vacations for friend's paper route :-) Military Does sophomore ROTC count? Probably not. Was #333 in the Draft Lottery, and my family subsequently needed me more than the military did. Hats off to all you veterans...
