Matt's Story
Life
I'm starting from the beginning...I was born and lived in and around Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan from birth (1980) until around 1992. My parents got divorced when I was 10, and my step-dad was in the Coast Guard, he got moved and so did we, lol. I lived on Otis Air Force Base om Cape Cod Mass. from spring 1992 until around the fall of 1994. Then we moved to Wisconsin for a few months, and moved back to Michigan in the summer of 1995.
I lived in Kincheloe Michigan from summer 1995 until the spring of 1998 when I graduated from Rudyard High school. Then I went to college for 2 years at Lake Superior State, before moving down to Mount Pleasant. I finished school there at Central Michigan Universit...Expand for more
y in 2003 with a double major in spanish and history after studying abroad in Segovia Spain for my last summer of college life.
After college, I decided to join the Army as a linguist/translator. I joined in April of 2004, and after finishing Basic Training lived in Monterey California for 2 years going to language school and earning a Associates Degree in Serbian and Croatian. I spent the next three years working in San Antonio, then a year in North Carolina before deploying to Afghanistan for 12 months. After returning from Afghanistan, I was moved back to San Antonio, where I finished out the last two of my ten years in the Army, minus four months during the summer or 2013 that I deployed to Kosovo.
