After escaping Detroit, I left for the Navy; starting life in San Diego, CA. After Desert Storm, I went to Europe and buried myself in mediocrity amongst the heavy-hitting go-getters of the south...I identified, not without much toil, my own inner swine and learned what not to do in Spain with a head full of Grappa. I retreated to our own east coast to finish college at the University of Connecticut in 1995; yet another starving English major. Thankfully, a friend from school was starting a music magazine in Phoenix and thought I would make a good fit. Phoenix for me, in the mid-90's, was a confusing mix of what was stingingly very real and what was fluffy dreamtime fantasy; the latter winning out most times with the equally confusing betrayal of a messy drug-addiction. Those days are dangerous and blurry for good reasons.
