Matthew's Story
Life
After graduating from LHS I enlisted in the Marine Corps. I was a computer programmer (COBOL, ugh) until I was selected for an officer program. After graduating from the University of Colorado in Boulder I was commissioned and soon found myself in Saudi Arabia in command of a tank platoon. After Desert Storm I went to flight school, flew helicopters up until 1999. I then worked in telecommunications in San Diego as well as drilling in the Marine Reserves. In 2004 I deployed to Iraq, having switched from tanks to Civil Affairs in...Expand for more
the Marines. I deployed again in 2005 and 2006, still doing Civil Affairs (which is the building things, interacting with the population, and helping get things going again part of the Marine Corps). In 2007, while I was temporarily stationed in Maryland, I married my long-time girlfriend, Storrie. I deployed again to Iraq in 2008, in Ramadi.
Life is good.
I have a 20 year-old daughter, who is attending the University of Colorado in Boulder, and an 18 year-old son who is in San Diego.
We've got now one dog and seven (or so) cats.
