Matthew's Story
Life
Life Bio - wow, lots to think about, how has my life gone, what am i up to now.
Family:
I am married to an amazing woman - Heather. She, as corny as it may sounds, completes me. We have been married for 10 years and going strong. The mission of our family is to love others as Christ loves us. We moved from Naperville to Aurora 8 years ago in an attempt of providing opportunities to the mainly Hispanic neighborhood of the near east side. It has been an amazing experience.
We have three kids, Hannah 8, MIcah 6 and Noah 4. These guys are totally awesome, they are intelligent - must come from mom, beautiful - must come from mom, and passionate - maybe a little of both of us. Heather spends a couple days a week volunteering in the classrooms of our kids and finding ways to love the kids in our neighborhood.
Career:
I spent the first 13 years after college in high tech marketing, mainly software industry. After the bubble in high tech burst I was pretty burned out, lots of travel and long hours, I switched to doing consulting so I could control my schedule and have more time for family and outside interests. Passion:
Our main passion is loving others less fortunate than ourselves. Our work in Aurora is very rewarding and our main focus but for the last two years Heather and I have been assisting a couple from Aurora in the quest to love Bangkok bar girls (prostitutes). Although very challenging and difficult it has been one of the top 5 most rewarding experiences of my life.
In two years we have seen 10 Thai staff, two homes for the 20 woman, an outreach to Bangok slums, 6 businesses and 2 churches started. WOW, what a trip. Heather and I had a chance to go over to Bangkok in Oct 2005 to see first hand and had the experience of a life time. We spent 5-6 nights in the bars talking to working gals and trying to understand some of the issues and the scope of the problem. Some estimates put the industry at 2M people in the country of Thailand, without a doubt the most notorious place on earth for the sexual explotation of woman and children. That doesn't leave much time for much more but I guess thats enough. As a good friend of mine says he would much rather burn out than rust.
