Matthew's Story
Life...
After graduating in 1990, I went to basic training in Ft. Leonard Woods, MO as a Combat Engineer from July until October of that year, to which I was assigned to the GA guard armory on Victory Dr for 6 1/2 yrs. During that time I went to Jordan, Oman, and Operation Desert Shield/Storm, helped out with the Flint River flood of 1994, went to PLDC at GA Military Institute in Macon, GA in 1993 and changed my MOS to mechanic in 1995. During that timeframe, I also worked at Arcco Military Sales for a year and then with the Char-Broil Division of W.C. Bradley as a forklift operator for 4 yrs. snia while there from 1997-1998). From there, I PCS'd to Ft. Benning for 3 years until November 2002, afterwhich I did a tour in Korea for 15 months and then moved to Ft. Stewart, GA in 2004,where I still reside. Prior to going to Korea, I changed MOS's again to Communications. I have been deployed to Iraq from January 2005 to January 2006, March 2007 to May 2008, and I'm currently deployed since October 2009. I married Katrina Brooks of Columbus in December 1996 and took in her son, DeShon, as my own, although we are now in the midst of a divorce. We have a Shih-Tzu named Benjamin and a black DSH cat named Mouse. I was promoted to SGT on February 2002 and now to SSG October 2008.
