Maureen's Story
Life
My parents and I moved to Grand Junction, CO in 1981. My parents and my family, still reside in Grand Junction in a town named Whitewater. I have two boys named Jared and Brett.
Jared and he is my oldest. and is 20. Brett and he is my youngest. He just turned 18. I also have a new granddaughter her name is Kierra Noelle Hodson, she was born 040209.
My parents were retired, but it was a struggle so they went back to work. But they are enjoying there lives, the grandchildren, and travel a lot.
It seems like yesterday I was my oldest son's age, and just having the time of my life. Now I am older, an adult, and a PARENT.
Grand Junction is a very beautiful, small community. It is surrounded by mountains on 3 sides, so we live in a valley. The weather is usually nice all year round. When it snows it may be for a few days and then it is gone, the rain is the same way. The summers are usually in the 100's, but there is not much humidity so it cools d...Expand for more
own and is quite comfortable in the evenings. The spring and fall are quite spectacular with all the color changes, especially in the mountains.
It is nothing like Michigan. The fast pace and the many things to do are just not available. If you are a big city person, then GJ is not for you. If you are retired or enjoy the small city life, then GJ is your place. We have many outdoors adventures for your enjoyment, but not many indoor community events are available. It is the only thing besides the bars that is open til 2am. They finally built an ice arena, and it opened July 2006. The plan for completion was suppose to be in 1998, but it is a non profit organization and it has taken all that time to acquire all the funding.
The cost of living is high and wages from a job are low. At times it is a struggle, but we get by. We have considered relocating, but nothing is definate. We are considering returning to Michigan, just too much of a stuggle here!!
