Maurice 'Moe''s Story
G'Day Old Friends -
My elementary schools in Belleville were Queen Victoria, Queen Elizabeth and Queen Alexandra. I did have the pleasure of attending BCIVS during the month of Sept. in '53 before moving to Milford in Prince Edward County, where I attended PECI in Picton. In '57 I moved to Inverary north of Kingston, where I finished my high school at Sydenham -SHS in '58.
I attended a summer spasm of teachers college and taught in a rural one-room school for one year before moving on to several other short term careers. I then joined Revenue Canada, Taxation in Kingston in '66 as a payroll auditor, when CPP was first introduced. A year later I moved to Ottawa on a promotional transfer to HQ, in a systems environment. My federal public service career was very enjoyable, working in the early systems environments (when old card sorters and hard-wired hardware were being converted to large mainframe computers), delivering systems training across Canada, managing financial systems development projects, etc., etc. In '76 I transferred to the old department of Supply and Services (now part of Public Works and Government Services Canada) in an area related to the Receiver General. I retired in '99 and was then talked into doing some consulting for several ...Expand for more
federal departments, but have been able to avoid that since mid '03.
In my last year of high school I met my bride-to-be, Shirley (nee Cliff), and got married in '60. We have three sons: the oldest, (born in '61) has his own high tech security-based consulting business, a darling wife, two sons and a daughter, living 1/2 hour south of Ottawa, and we really enjoy our grandchildren; we also have severely autistic twin sons (born in '67), who lived at home till they were almost 20, and have been in local groups homes since then - coming home most weekends for a visit and supper. We now live in the Ottawa suburb of Kanata.
We have had some wonderful years of fun and friendship in too many circles to list. Our main preoccupation for recreation for almost 20 years was competitive ballroom dancing, having competed quite successfully across Canada, in the States and in England, and retired from that adventure also in '99 - but not only have trophies and videos of our good times, we have a wonderful collection of friends who we stay in contact with..
I'd be happy to e-reminisce with you, if you want to contact me via this web site.
Hope everyone out there is now enjoying the best of health and happiness in retirement.
Cheerie bye for now............ - Moe
