Mayra's Story

In my nerdy years I wore glasses and always felt lonely throughout my elementary years. Accept for another hispanic girl that became my friend named Cookie (Migdalia). My high school years was pretty much the same. We both chose different high schools and we lost contact after I married and had two boys from a deadbeat. The one person I would like to see again from my past is a nun named Sister Marion from All Saints High School I kept in contact with for a couple of years after the school closed down, but she was up there in age back then all I hope is that she is with the Lord if she has passed away. Every Saturday evening mom and dad would pile my sisters and I into the station wagon and go to Carvels for an ice cream cone. That day I wanted to be difficult and asked for a banana boat. Back then they were hugh. So after going through the stubborn minutes mom finally allowed me a banana boat under the condition that I eat the whole thing before we went back home. Well they say you eat with your eyes and that was the perfect case with me. Till this day I will not eat a banana spit if it is the last food on earth. I remember my first job was in McDonalds on the corner of Greenpoint Ave and Manhattan Ave in Brooklyn. The first day I came home my mom thought I brought in a dozen hamburgers because I smelled from head to toe of burgers. I worked the fries section for awhile then the shake machine and finally a cashier. Back then a hamburger, fries and a drink was under a dollar and you got change back. I really don't remember why I quit but that was my first paying job of 2.34 an hour and working part time because of school. The we...Expand for more
irdest job I ever had was working in a deer processing plant in Georgia. Boy, did I learn how to cook the stuff the right way from the locals. My life has been nothing but one surprise after another from the moment I divorced and moved out of Greenpoint. The world opened up to me in many ways. After living in NJ for 6 years I started moving around from state to state staying mostly in the east coast. I always wanted to be a truck driver when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a great idea. As it turns out, they were right. I have traveled for 2 years at one time in my life and I loved it. I recently was saved and now I pray for the understanding of many things I have no control over. I used to crotchet alot and that would help me settle me down or read a good James Paterson book to put my mind onto something else. I have several dogs and they all keep me on my toes and make me smile with their individual personalities. There have been many surprises for me in my life time, many good, others great and some that weren't so good and being in the hospital for over 2 years from complications on a simple procedure. My children are all grown up now and they all have taught me to be very supportive of them and help them with advise when asked. We grew up together for I was a teen myself and I have learned many serious lessons along the way. My first grandson is a joy to hear for he is overseas with his parents for the past several years. I had the great pleasure of holding him for the first time last April and boy my cup runneth over when all of my children were together with wives and grandbaby in that memorable reunion.
