Meg's Story

Life Mike and I have been married for almost 26 years (it will be in November). We have 3 children. Clint just graduated from UNI with a teaching degree in Industrial Technology. He will be teaching at good old Benton Community starting in the fall of 2006 and hopes to get into coaching. Cassie is living in Marengo and has given us our first grandchild, Calvin James, 8 months. As a proud grandma, he's the greatest! Our youngest Catie graduated in May, was planning to attend Mount Mercy for Nursing and then discovered a boyfriend. That's cool, however, he became more important than anything in her life and now they're expecting their fiest child...I'm not thrilled, but will support her in her life. I am working at AEGONUSA (going on 8 years) and prior I was at United Fire for 19 years. Mike is self-employed (32 years) and also builds custom countertops. We were heavily involved in the Van Horne Quasquicentennial that was held the last weekend of June. It was a GREAT time (we had great weather while Keyston had lousy weather for theirs). My folks are still in B'town, same house, etc. Dad has just turned 88 and has started showing signs of Alzheimers/dementia. So, now instead of "babysitting" we're "dadsitting". It's sad to see a great man like him go through what he has. Mike's mom died almost 5 years ago and we FINALLY talked his dad (he and Mary had liv...Expand for more
ed in LaPorte City for about 15 years) into moving back to Van Horne. He is really enjoying being back to his "roots". We have a summer place in Pepin, WI and a winter place around Daisy, AR. We didn't get to enjoy either place much (although the winter is fairly "young") we may get to AR in March. We live on an acreage south of town (I don't think I could even dream of living in town/city again!) on the highway (Mike Daniels lived here at one time). I'm sure alot of you locals will remember the place. We have a Chocolate Labrador (Geater's Widgeon Pointer, aka Jenny). She had nine pups right before graduation. We got rid of all but one - she was the run and we had to bottle-feed her so we kept her. We donated one to the Jerry Eckenrod memorial auction for a new fitness facility here at BC. Mike was Fire Chief for 6 years and finally gave that up, but he is still a fireman so that keeps us on our toes at all times. I know this is supposed to be about me, but I hope that whoever reads it is having as good of life as I am and that it will only get better! Just like wine, we all get better with age, right? OK, so I am mostly gray-haired now, but I LOVE it. (I even get senior citizen discounts without being carded). However, I do get carded when buying liquor - what's wrong with that picture? Have a GREAT one everybody! Take care and hope to see y'all soon.
