Melanie's Story
Life
Hey, Spartans, how's it going? Just wanted to thank you for being a great group of kids to go to high school with. I'm a teacher now, just finished teaching high school, and it made me become more aware of the good times and opportunities we allowed each other. Of course, the teachers, coaches, too, did a bit. It was fun, safe, and memorable.
I went to Mount St. Mary's College in Los Angeles on a scholarship for four years (again, thanks CVHS.) With a BA in English/Art, I started teaching.
Then married a dashing Air Force fighter pilot (F4 Phantom), lived all over the world (Kadena, Okinawa; Hill AFB Utah; George AFB California; Eglin AFB Florida; and best of all, Hickam AFB Hawaii for eight years.) We were married 20 years.
When I returned to the High Desert as a single mom, I obtained teaching credentials in Special Education and a Masters. I am now a Resource Specialist, though I've taught just about all types of Special Ed. since 1995.
I have three children, young adults now. One son a...Expand for more
graduate of Univ. of California in English, another son a Navy Veteran of the latest war in Afghanistan and finishing a degree in Computer Science, and my baby girl graduated from UNLV in English, and is now working on a MA.
None of them are married...so I'm not a grandma yet.
Most important, back in college I accepted Jesus in a personal way and have been walking with the Lord since 1973. That's the most important event that's happened. I can't imagine making it through all the challenges of life without the Lord and His Holy Spirit!
I truly do appreciate our high school years...what good opportunities for laughter, silliness, and being a kid! Thanks again, Melanie (Link)

I think my biggest most secret crush was on Jerry Austin, a basketball player who, undoubtedly didn't know I existed. I was busy being basically shy, studying and running for student government.
My. Nolen, our speech teacher, truly encourages me even today. What a kind, patient, and excellent coach he was for us.
