Melissa's Story
Life
I guess you could say my life has had it's ups and downs. I was married for almost 7 years after high school, which was part of my rough life. I guess that is why I am divorced. During that 7 years I had good times and bad times. I guess the best times were when I gave birth to 2 beautiful girls, which are the love of my life.
During my life I have had many jobs. I started out as a child care provider in Des Moines in 1997. By that time I was a mother of my first child and had a year of college under my belt. I stayed in childcare for aproximatly 3 years. In 2000 I had another child, and decided it was time to move on from childcare. I then became a correctional officer for the Dallas Co. Jail in Adel. Then in 2001 the job cuts came in Iowa for a lot of the state jobs. It was time to find something else.
I went back to college and persued my degree in criminal justice at Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge. After a year of studying the art of fighting crime, I met the Air Force recruiter and decided it was time to do something with my life.
When I wasting the Air Force I was a fuel system maintainer on the US Air Force airplanes. Basicly I was a mechanic who worked in big fuel tanks. I was good at what I did, but stunk every night.
After I was medically retired from the Air Force after 10 and a half years, I kind of floated from Walmart to a correctional officer at a small county jail. I finally ended up working at Shell oil for the past while. I enjoy it and I am back working with what I know petroleum products. I am currently a packa...Expand for more
ging operator packaging oil for vehicles and trucks. I also am a superior over a line ta actually does large bulk items like drums, pails, totes, and kegs. It is still dirty work, but it is good money. I am hoping to use my education to further my career in Shell and move into a salary position in management one day.
Speaking of education I am working on my masters degree in supply chain management. I am hoping in the next year or two.
Now I am living in a suburb of Houston,TX. The hustle and bustle of the area makes for a lot of interesting and fun things to do. I currently live here with my husband Charles and my three girls. Jean who aspires to be a pastry chef. She is graduating from high school this year. Then Emily who aspires to b a veterinarian or a marine biologist one day. She is a sophomore in high school so she has a couple more years to decide. The final child Abigail is just starting pre k this year and she is the final child of our brood. I also have other children that are adults or live elsewhere in the states. Amy is living with her boyfriend in Pennsylvania. Timothy is in the Air Force and is starting his career. He is a glorified generator mechanic. He enjoys it and I hope he sticks with it. Then there is Caleb. Caleb lives in Pennsylvania with his mother and he works on a farm as a farm hand. Finally Tanner is a junior in high school and participates in football. He is currently going through a difficult stage I his life and is living with a friend currently. So I all that is 7 kids. Even though I didn't birth all of them they are still my kids.
