Melissa's Story

Life Hola! I'm living in Playa del Carmen, Riviera Maya...Mexico. I'm a realtor here. I've been in Mexico almost 7 years now. I have a 5 year old son. He's a lot of fun. Our life is pretty simple, laid back and tropical. Todo bien in Playa and I'm very happy here. If you ever visit, look me up! I go to California every year, sometimes twice. My parents sold their house in San Jose and moved to Lodi. My Mom and brother are still in the Bay Area. I still talk to Grais Ko, Tania Erickson, Anne Burnett, and Isabel Sarkis frequently. Pam Darby also had a baby, so we have gone to each other's weddings and baby showers over the years...it's hard to believe how many years have gone by. I planned the 10 year reunion and hope that someone else will take the iniative for the 20 year. I have been a professional event planner, so it was a lot of fun to put that together, we all had a really good time. Hope you're well! School Del Roble Elementary, Hayes, Elementary, Herman Junior High, Oak Grove High Going all the way back is a blur. We used to sing the double dutch jump repeatedly in 2nd or 3rd grade. I think it was Jennifer Perry, Tania Erickson and Shelly Tomishima. Melissa Scadina and I were inseparable for years. Grais Ko and I were like one person up until Highschool. When I got asked out on my first date, she came along too...it ended up being a group date anyway - we were freshman. it was Shawn Holme's 16th birthday. With Kasey Quevedo, Rob Kitaji, Chris Tanimoto and Christina Gangei...wow I can't believe I remembered that, but I do remember listening to Depece Mode incessantly and we went to see Beverly Hills Cop 2. I wasn't sure if I had to pay or not, so I brought with me the only money I had (it was one of those money cards from my grandma...it had like $10 in quarters, which was enough to pay for Grais and I if our "dates" didn't pay. Mine did, ...Expand for more
hers didn't...it was like that! I remember my first slow dance with Manny Saldana in the 7th grade...it was to Purple Rain. We used to laugh about that when we grew up. Melissa S. and I both had the biggest crush on Jay Wise. I liked his feathered hair and white jeans and tank tops. He had great arms and was so nice. We used to stalk the poor guy in 7th grade. We too laughed about that when we grew up and would run into each other at Toon's. I had a great time going to so many concerts and parties. I still can't drink as much tequila as I could way back then. If I could do it all over again, I wouldn't want to, but if I had to go back, I would have grown up slower. I was so serious...I had a serious relationship, a serious job...I would've liked to have been less grown up. My favorite teachers will always be Mr. Darnley, 6th grade at Hayes...he was the best. Jr. High teachers are really a blur. in Highscool, I really loved Kick's journalism class. He was also an excellent lifeguard trainer. Passing that course was a big accomplishment. Mr. Jewell's philosophy class was also a favorite. I had a great time and I still love going to school. Workplace I've always had really fun jobs. In highschool, I worked at the YMCA as a lifeguard, swim instructor, youth camp leader, fundraiser and managed the front desk. After the Y I went to work for Mosel Vitelic, a semi-conductor manufacturer for the next 5 years. I got into event planing and marketing then and LOVED it! After that, I did contract and temp work in Marketing Communications, Events and Sales for a time until I got recruited by an internet start up company called MagicBeanStalk. I LOVED that too...boy was that a crazy run. After Beanstalk, I came to Mexico where I began a career in Real Estate. I now sell luxury condos in the premier zone of Playa del Carmen. Tough job, but somebody's gotta do it!
