Melissa's Story

Life My life summed up...let's see...It's definitely not at all what I had expected it to be. It's not a disappointment, but it's totally different. I'll explain... I moved to Columbia, MO with the intention going to MU and graduating with a BA in Art, and a minor in Art History...that didn't happen. I dropped out, with hopes of becoming a rock star. I played drums in a few bands, two of which should have made it to minor lable stardom. Large egos combined with lack of talent brought upon a quick demise to both bands (boys will be boys). Realizing that I'm not getting any younger, and no one wants to see a aging female drummer rock the bar scene (gray hair included), I decided to get a "real job". After trying out restraunt management and house painting, I realized there is no money in either one of those careers. I have finally fell upon an interesting career field for a woman...car sales. I am currently working at Joe Machens Ford in Columbia, MO. The end... School I grew up in South St. Louis City. I moved to Ballwin at age 11. I hated West County, but I had to make the most of it. I met my BFF, Angie Carter, in 7th grade at Holy Infant and still talk to her and consider her my BFF (for those who don't know what BFF is, it's best friends forever, duh)! We would do stupid crap together, for example, lip-sync to Poison songs in her basement, go to Six Flags to pick up hot trailer trash boys, and then, when we got a little older, would go driving all over creation in search of creepy stuff, such as old cemetaries. High School was full of fond memories of craziness and fun, as well. With Angie almost always by my side, we'd go to...Expand for more
parties at Tammy's house with her ancient, mostly deaf grandmother there to "watch the house and make sure there were no parties." What her parents never understood was, Grandma Guentz needed a walker to get around, and her bedroom was upstairs...you do the math...stairs + walker = never coming down the stairs. The parties were intense, but grandma never knew a thing, being mostly deaf. High school also bestowed another BFF upon me. Anne Hamilton. She was the awkward girl who sat next to me in homeroom. She started talking to me about The Cure and I didn't really listen to her, but she wouldn't stop talking to me, so I decided to be her friend. She beat me up (unintetionally) a few times, and our bond grew. We both had to wait for our moms to pick us up from school way after school was out (no buses, catholic dogma, I guess, buses are a sin). During these hours of waiting at school after it's been out for 2-3hrs, we would talk and be silly together. We had homeroom, several classes, and were both in band together, making us becoming BFF unavoidable. She is still one of my BFFs to this day. I did and still do have other friends from high school, such as Lauren Murphy, Kellie Chinnicci, Erica Daub, Peggy DiMercurio, Christy Schultz, Mike Crump, Matt Beardsley, Erik Gray, and many others I know I'm forgetting because my brain isn't awake yet. I made all kinds of friends in college, but once you get to a certain age, and people move away and come in and out of your life, you tend to keep ties loose. It's sad, but true. I have had lots of close friends who, for whatever reason, I have lost touch with. This goes out to them...I MISS YOU!
