More about Melissa:"My ODISSI DANCE Guruji's daughter, Pratibha Jena Singh, invited me to perform in an International Dance Festival in Bhubaneswar, India in the festival Dec.2010 and 2011. I danced in honor of my Guruji. I will revisit the land where this ancient traditional dance form, "ODISSI" originated again next year as a performer in the ODISSI INTERNATIONAL 2012 festival.

, and was able to travel with them to the sacred sites where Odissi dancers are carved into the temple walls. These sculptures of stone still stand from centuries past, where the dancers performed these dances as devotional rituals. The deep cultural expression that is maintained by the continuation of the practice and performance of these same poses and movements has fascinated me from the first day I saw it, when Guruji was a visiting professor at Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado. Since that time, I graduated with a 4-yr. Diploma in Odissi Dance from Triveni Kala Sangam in New Delhi, performed in over 100 venues in India, Europe, and the USA, and taught privately in TN, GA, NC, and NM. I have organized 2 tours for Pratibha Jena Singh in the USA and reached out to people in the USA to share my love of Indian Culture through my website for Ganesh Academy of Indian Arts. I have also hosted my Tabla teacher for the purpose of bringing Classical Indian Music to America. I offer classes in Odissi Dance, Tabla Drumming, and Hindi Language. I am a C.N.A./Home Health Caregiver with an Associate Degree in Computer Information Science as a Computer Support Specialist and an Actor/Film-maker attending Santa Fe Community College full-time to obtain an Associate Degree in Film Production.".
