Melissa's Story

Life Well after High School I took a semester off and then I attended ACC for a Legal Assistant. After two years of that I found out that ACC was not the place for me. I was hit by an eighteen wheeler in November of 2002, I only had a hair line fractor in my nose and a very bad bone bruse on my right knee. Through all of this I continued to work full time as a waitress and go to school. Yes, this was one of the hardest times for me. Some of my teachers at ACC did not understand that I would still be able to perform my school assingments, so since they did not want to work with me I got fustrated and went to Capitol City Careers for the same thing and got my degree in Nine months. Currently I am working for the Barbara W. Dody law firm, she is a family attorney and I love my job, I am very blessed. Even though the road to success was very hard, I never gave up. It made me work harder and become a stronger person. Right now I'm not involved with any one, I just broke off my relationship of four and a half years. He just wasn't bringing any thing to the table and was expecting me to do all of the hard work, well you guys know that Melissa Taylor was never down for that. So right now I just want to be alone and soak in the single life and just do what ever I want to do. It's about me right now, for many years I always put others in front of me and from past experiance it got me now where, so my main focus is keeping me happy, I worked hard for it and I deffenetly diserve it. I hope every one is doing fine and I can't wait to here from you guys. Peace out. Workplace After Highschool I went to work for the HEB off of Braker and 183, first I started as a cashier and then quickly moved my way up to cosmetics. That was always my first passion, since I was 10 years old I remember fixing my family and friends hair and make up for weddings, parties, or just for fun. After working in the HEB cosmetics I wanted to move on to better where the only thing I delt with was cosmetics and hair products, at HEB I was helping people with food to lawn and garden products, so that wasn't the spot for me. I quickly moved on to work for Clinique at Dillard's in Highland Mall. I had found my true calling there, I loved it, but so many of the women working there didn't like me to much because all of their costomers all of a suddon wanted their make up done by me,...Expand for more
just by seeing me apply make up to other costumers or other employee's they loved my technique. The other girls who worked there almost all went to cosmotology school and here came in this new girl with no school back ground in make up, and still knew what she was doing. They just couldn't stand that, so it made me very uncomfortable. So I left and worked for some unemployment company and they would find a different job almost every day. I hated it, I like stability and changing jobs every day was not my cup of tea. You might say "so why didn't you go to school for cosmotology?" Well I thought of that but in my life I always had a back up plan and since I already knew how to do hair and make up I decided to go to school for a legal assistant. All you guys know I loved to argue so I felt it would be a good career for me, I also love the whole legal aspect about it. Well enough on school, back to work. So I quite and the unemployment agency and I was out of work for six months. Push came to shove and I wanted a job really bad, so I broke down and went to apply as a waitress at the Yellow Rose. Yes it is a gentle man's club, but it is the number one gentle men's club in Austin, I told my self if I was going to stoop this low I was going to work for the best. Working there was really hard because I was not brought up that way, but I do have tough skin and I think that is what got me through it. I must say it was a really powerful learning experiance, I waited on so many celebrities like, No Doubt, Pantera, Slash from Guns-n-Roses and many more that I couldn't remember all of their names. I had good times and bad times working their, but I feel that it made me become a much better person and more understanding, I know it sounds crazy but it's true. Once I finished school I had a part time job for a criminal attorney while I was still waitressing. I just couldn't give up the money. But after a while working there was really getting to me, I just couldn't hanlde it any more and I started working on looking for a new job asap. And now I work for the Law firm of Barbara W. Dody. I love my job, I feel I am so blessed to have a job that I love to go to. One day I will go back to school for make up and hair, because I would like to become an image consultant. But for now this legal gig is the only thing on my mind...Remember, always have a plan B.
