Melody's Story

High School You may or may not remember me. I was not very active in High School. My two best friends went to other schools, one to Holy Rosary in the south end and the other to Oldham County. So most of my free time was spent traveling to either of their directions. And 40 years later, we are still in touch with each other. Wish I had been more active in school. Both my kiddos were extremely active in their high school and they had SO much fun and enjoyed their High School experience each year. It was fun to sit on the side and watch them!! After Waggener I tried college but it was not for me - kind of like High School, I just didn't get involved. Got a job and worked for that company for 23 years - First National Bank of Louisville, National Processing Company, and NPC of Texas. I traveled quite a bit in my 20's and then moved to Texas to help open a new office for my company. Only expected to be there a year or two and now 28 years later I'm still here. But my family is all still in Louisville, Mother is on Dutchman's Lane and my sister is in Oldham County, so I'm back visiting 2-3 times a year. Would come back more if a little closer or plane tickets didn't cost so much!! My Spouse I joined a coed softball team. We were not very good and after a couple of seasons, the guys wanted to ask a few "real" ball players to join. There were 2 couples on the team, the wives sisters, who had a brother who had played a little minor league ball. That was him. He said he knew when he met me that I was it - though it took me a little longer to see us that way. We were married for 24 years and I am now widowed. My Pets First we had an older terrior that came to our family with my husband. She was wonderful and extremely smart so we got a white german shephard puppy to learn from the old dog - which you guessed it, the old dog didn't like the puppy at all. The old dog died, and about 2 years later, our shephard got out of the yard and ran away. A year or so after that, my husband called me at work and said he wanted to go to the shelter and get a dog for the kids. I said ok. I picked the kids up at school, told them about the new dog ...Expand for more
and they were bouncing off the walls of the car. We walked in the house and the little nipper jumped up and first bit my son, then my daughter. My husband said "I don't think she likes kids!!" Great! But she calmed down, tolerated our kids, everyone else, and followed me everywhere. She was truly my dog. She passed away after 11 years and 18 months later, my husband said it was time for another dog. Now have an American Staffordshire mix and she, Tara, is a sweetie. My Kids She's 27, has 2 beautiful children, is athletic, into cheerleading, and is in her last year of school to get a degree to teach. She was the Director at an After School program at one of our elementary schools here in our school district where we live. He is 25, an ex-football player, strong as an ox yet gentle as can be, just graduated from East Texas Baptist University and started a new job at a church in Katy, Texas. They are truly the lights of my life! Now I worked until my kiddos were in about Kinder and 2nd grades, then I quit for 12 years. I was a "volunteer extrodinaire" I guess you'd say, getting involved in whatever activity they were into. First with their sports, being team Reps and on Boards of the associations they were part of. Heavy into PTA, with carnivals, room reps, yearbooks/newsletters, fundraisers, and then chaired our district Clothes Closet for students in our schools that had financial needs. I volunteered there for a couple years and for 7 more years was Chairman. Ran our High School Sprit Shop for 2 years, supporting the football booster club which has been Texas 5A State Champs 3 out of the last 7 years and 2 of those while my kiddos were involved. I am a member of an international women's club that promotes education for women and supports a Junior College in Missouri to that end. I now work at the High School where my children graduated, Trinity High School in Euless, Texas. This is my seventh year and I love being around these young people. My only regret is getting so far from Louisville. Whoever said you can never go home was crazy! I'd move back in a hearbeat but as long as my kids are here, I'll be in Texas.
