Melvena (Nena)'s Story
Life
After graduation I majored in Music Ed. at St. Mary of the Plains in Dodge City, Ks. After college, I moved back to Michigan and taught in Southgate (at various times: Vocal music,K-10; Kindergarten; 1st and 2nd grades) - retiring in 1999 - and began the life of leisure (well almost)!
In 1967, I married Jim Kelly and we were blessed with 3 wonderful kids - Anne(1968); Brian(1972); Christopher(1977). Our marriage ended in 1997 in divorce. In 2000 I took a giant step...moved to an apartment in Farmington Hills. After retirement from Southgate, I began to volunteer at Single Point Ministries of which I was a member. In November 2001, I was asked by the Singles Minister at Ward EPC to become the Minstry Assistant. I joined Ward Church in 2002 and feel so blessed by the Lord for leading me to SPM. aw, and we married a year to the date in 2002. I worked there until October 1st when Ken retired and so did I (once again). Ken and I have purchased a home (2002) up north in Indian River on the Pigeon River. We retired to our home in the north in October 2003.
God has blessed me abundantly! And I hope you receive His blessings daily in your life!
2006 update:
Enjoying my retirement at our new home - love it! The beauty that surrounds me daily, makes me know there is a God!
I'm now volunteering (once again) at IRUMC - manning the office on Monday AM, creating the weekly bulletin, doing powerpoint for the Sunday service, on Worship Team, as well as playing the guitar weekly & singing for the contemporary service. Occasionally, I'm even asked to play keyboard. Now doesn't that sound like I'm retired? Life is good - and so is GOD in your life!!!
