Meredith's Story
Life
So, I went to the Univ. of Delaware and had the best vacation of my life for a year and a half. After my vacation, I returned home to lovely Southern CT State and was on the women's rugby team. I graduated with my Bachelor's of Sci. in Nursing in 5-96. In May 2001, I graduated from Sacred Heart University in Fairfield with my Masers of Science in Nursing- Family Nurse Practitioner degree.
Afer completing my 9th year of college, I earned the degrees: RN, MSN, PCCN, FNP, APRN(Registered Nurse, Masters of Sci. in Nursing, Progressive Care Certified Nurse, Family Nurse Practitioner, Advanced Practice Registered Nurse). For those who are lost, I am able to diagnose illnesses, prescribe treatments (medications, tests, etc...), refer out and basically be my patient's primary care provider independant of a physician (other than to collaborate of course). 2006- Doctorate of Nursing Practice, but had to postpone my education due to the birth of my second son...
I currently work as an APRN at Bridgeport Hospital- The Heart Institute in the Electrophysiology department.
In my area, I specialize in Cardiology and Electrophysiology (heart rhythms).
I recently accepted the appointment of the Connecticut State Representative for the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. Also, I participate in lobbying efforts for health care issues with the CT Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Society. -Never thought I would be one of the "suits" on Capitol Hill!
After undergrad, Brad and I moved to Stratford, CT and were married 6-13-98. We bought our first home in the north end of Stratford, then moved to Orange in 4/2003. We have a wonderful boy- Robbie born on 6/18/2003. Brad and I are expecting our second child in February 2007. We also have two wonderful cats Fezick and Jade.
