Rob's Story

If, as they say, life is what happens while you're making other plans then mine really went awry. The real changes began when I enlisted in the Army in '66, less than 24 hours before I was going to be inducted as a draftee. That resulted in my living outside the US for almost 5 years (Ethiopia, southeast Asia and southern Germany) and my duty assignment as the GM of an on-base audio/photo retail facility my last 18 months in Germany led to a career in consumer electronics. Met my first wife during training at Ft. Devens, Mass in '66 and my second while working for Bose in '75. From '72 when I left the Army and went to work for Bose until I retired in 2006 my career took me from Miami to Boston to Chicago to Cleveland to NY back to Boston to Memphis back to NY to Nashville back to Boston to LA to central OR back to LA to St. Petersburg and, finally (whew), back to NY. That's a lot of packing and unpacking and I've got the bad back to prove it! Met my wife Susan when I was living in LA when she called on me at work (I was her client) and that began an on again/off again 5-year long distance relationship (CA to NY, then FL to NY) before we finally got together permanently in 2000. We lived in a gated condo community right on the Hudson River about 30 miles north of Manhattan from 2000 to 2016 and spent eve...Expand for more
ry other weekend on average at Moose Pond, our weekend retreat in southwestern Vermont. I retired in 2006 and Susan in 2016. We're close to my daughter from my first marriage and saw her every couple of months before this blasted pandemic. She's a staff scientist for a major biotech company and she and her computer analyst husband live in a Boston suburb with our grandson and their two dogs and one cat. 2022 Update: 3 1/2 years ago we moved to coastal North Carolina (just outside of Wilmington) and are loving life here in the South. Our home is on a small lake in a 4,500 acre planned community and we have the most awesome neighbors of our lives. The Saturday before the pandemic shut things down we adopted a wonderful Mini Bernedoodle puppy (Sophie Elizabeth) and she's the light of our lives. We're both still quite active, work out regularly, watch our weight, eat healthy 90% of the time and are fully enjoying life as senior citizens. About 10 years ago we both got MINI Coopers and have been active MINIacs ever since. We're presently on #s 5 & 6 and will be participating in the semi-annual MINI Takes the States rally in July. We fell in love with mid-coast Maine about 15 years ago and will be going back there in June for the first time since the pandemic. I can already taste the lobster and belly clams.
