Merritt's Story
Moved to Delaware after graduation from Huguenot H.S. in 1973.
Attended Brandywine College (now Widener University), from 1973 to 1975 graduating with an Associates Degree in Science.
Worked for the DuPont Company as a Computer Operator and APL*PLUS Programmer until 1978 when I left to attend Syracuse University to study Computer Science. Graduated in 1980 with a Bachelor's Degree. Also took several courses at the Masters' and Doctorate level but did not attain a post graduate degree.
Moved to Fort Worth, Texas - employed by the General Dynamics Corp., as a Computer Scientist. The F-16 Multi-Purpose Jet Fighter is assembled at this site and I worked on control systems for air-to-air and air-to-ground munitions deployment systems.
In 1982, I moved to Trevose, Pennsylvania (north of Philadelphia) - employed by the Neshaminy Valley Information Processing Company as a Senior APL2 Programmer/Analyst. Worked on many applications in the financial and government sectors.
In 1984, I was offered an appointment at Princeton University in Princeton, New Jersey - worked as an Associate Director of the Microcomputer Lab operated by the School of Engineering, Aeronautical and Civil Engineering Depts.
In 1985, I accepted an offer to join the Mobil Oil Corporation (Mobil Research a...Expand for more
nd Development Company - MRDC), as an Advanced Engineer in the Engineering Methods Group. I headed up the APL2 programming division where I wrote APL2 code for various applications including financial forecasting (Cost and Contracts Division), off-shore analysis (in Dallas), automated oil distillation simulations, etc. This was a fun, fun, fun job!!! (until Exxon came in and ruined it all with their merger).
In 1992, I left MRDC to do APL2 programming as a Programming Contractor with IBM in Dallas, Texas. That wasn't any fun at all.
In 1998, I moved to Austin, Texas, to do Contract Programming using APL2 with RCG Information Technology. I was assigned to the Computer Sciences Company where I wrote several insurance applications (i.e. forecasting, annuities, actuarial programming, etc.), until 1999 when I completed my project. I remained in Austin until I retired to Maui (Hawaii) in 2001.
Enjoy music (e.g. The Beatles, Electric Light Orchestra, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Linda Perry, Muse, David Bowie, Chicago, David Benoit, et al); Travel (e.g. Europe, Austria, Dubai, Fiji, Tahiti, Alaska, Bermuda, Bahamas, and other islands in the Caribbean); and Pleasure Flying (I hold my private pilots' license which I earned during my Junior Year at Huguenot High School).
