Merry's Story
Life
I completed a secretarial certificate and worked in a variety of jobs for many years. My daughter Melody was born in 1977. We lived in Ontario for three years and NB for two, returning when my mother passed away December 1980. I went back to school in 1991, earning a Legal Assistant Certificate. I have been employed by the Law Society of Alberta since November 1992. I have an interesting and rewarding job. Melody's daughter Ashley was born March 9th, 2001. Melody and Geoff (Ashley's father) were married on November 25th, 2005, in my home. They are expecting in October 2006. They are my blessings. My life is truly happy. I am fortunate to have reconnected with Vivian Hansen, Stephen Crewson, Kim Linton, Gail Fawley and a few others from Aberhart.
I am newly single. Just bought my first house on my own. I started hiking in 2005 and have now learned how to snowshoe. I am learning how to live my life and not just keep it tidy. Most weekends I can be found in one of the off-leash dog parks in Calgary with my female black lab/german shepherd cross, Jade. My real exercise program!
I attended the 25th and 30th Reunions. My unnending gratitude to the dedicated group that continues to host these events! It is great to see everyone again, even if it is just for an evening. If you are a prior classmate, I hope this finds you well.

t Henderson's Business College. I worked for Donaldson Securities until January of 1976, when I left Calgary. I moved first to Petawawa, Ontario, where I married in 1977 and then to New Brunswick in 1978. I returned to Calgary in December of 1980 when my mother passed away. I began work with the Alberta College of Art in March of 1981, working in the Slide Library. I left ACA in March of 1984 to work full-time for my then husband, David Byers. In 1985, I worked for a number of companies, Hartland Commercial Real Estate, Whitezone Studios, Terry Berezan Insurance, Mini-Brochures. I began work with Calgary Photo Distributors in June of 1986 and remained with them until September 1991. The majority of these employment positions were secretarial/bookkeeping. I went back to school in November of 1991 and obtained a Legal Assistant Certificate. On November 4th, 1992, I was hired by the Law Society of Alberta. I have been with them since that date. I have a great job. I work with a committee of 21, helping lawyers to improve client service, communication and the business/administrative side of their practice. My work also involves assisting them to seek professional help for personal problems, while observing the mandate of the LSA - the protection of the public. I love the work I do. My work brings me a great sense of accomplishment, each and every day. If I ever won a lottery, I would continue to work.....I'd just have better holidays!
