Michael's Story

I graduated from Northeastern University in 1984 with a bachelor's in business administration. After college I worked for 10 years at a state agency as a business systems analyst in downtown Boston. Next I worked for 3 years as a Software Quality Assurance Analyst at Keyport Life Insurance Company in Boston's Financial District. After commuting to Boston for 13 years, I made my escape to the suburbas. For the next 10 years I worked at Tufts Health Plan in both Waltham and Watertown as Senior Software Quality AssuranceAnalyst. Fortunately for me, Tufts made the stupid decision to outsource my dept, which was the impetus that I had needed to get out of Tufts. Sad to say, Tufts Health Plan was (and likely still is) far more bureaucratic than working for the government. For the past 4 1/2 years I have working at The MathWorks in Natick. I work for a company that treats its employees exceptionally well. I have lived a few years in Framingham, 10 years in Arlington (loved it!), 7 years in Auburndale (Newton), along with shorter stays in Natick, Waltham, and Watertown. Now I live in Hopkinton. After leaving Hopedale in 1982, I had thought that I would never live in that area again. Life is a journey with m...Expand for more
any unexpected twists. After a number of relationships I met the love of my life in 2002 and have been together ever since. We got married in Uxbridge in May 2005. Along with the marriage came two amazing stepdaughters then aged 21 and 18. Now both are married and the younger one has blessed us with 2 grandsons whom I adore. We also have 3 rescue cats, who help to fill our home with love. In school, I was usually the last person picked for a team in gym class. Having an athletic ability was not one of my natural blessings. I had always floundered. In the 90's I worked hard at doing well at a sport. I had taken up tennis and ultimately made it a 3.5 rating. I captained tennis teams for 11 years. In '96 and '97, my men's team made it to the New England sectional finals. In '96 we came in second. My other team was mixed doubles, and in 2001 we earned trophies. For a guy who had sucked at gym, I am exceptionally proud of my achievement. I have many blessings in my life, and I do not take them for granted. In my youth, I was so shy and did not know how to stand up for myself. Over time I have managed to largely bury that kid. He still pops out from time to time, but not never for long. I love my life.
