Michael's Story

After graduating from Alameda, I attended Colorado Mesa University and graduated with an AA in Psychology, a BA in Biology and a BS in Geology. After college, I worked as an exploration geologist in the oil fields of North Dakota before transitioning into commercial sales. I worked for DuPont the last third of my career doing stone seminars for architects and designers in the US and Canada. I retired in 2015 as national accounts manager for DuPont. Jan and I have been together since...Expand for more
2004 and moved to Castle Pines, Colorado in 2018. She works as a director for the DEA. I've also lived in La Jolla, California, Seattle, WA and Summit County (Dillon/Silverthorne), CO. My hobbies include hiking, backpacking, snow shoeing, scuba diving, RVing and ATVing. I've also enjoyed sailing, sea kayaking, skiing, sky diving, hot air ballooning, wind surfing and river rafting. When Jan retires in 2027 we plan to spend our summers in the mountains and our winters in the tropics.

Spectacular weather and views
Great trails and very few people
It felt good to "be back in the saddle again"!
Great views from the Weston Pass Hut.
Mosquito Pass and luckily no mosquitos.
360 degree views from the top of the pass.
Very nice wide trails on both Mosquito and Weston Passes.
Looking west toward Leadville.
Lots of old mining buildings and housing.
Nature beautifies even the old mining pits.
Only in Colorado! We are so lucky!
Some of the trails were a bit more rugged and challenging! Definitely not one of the "wheel chair accessible" trails!

The colors were amazing. 10 miles and 1,850' elevation gain, a fantastic day!
Some fresh snow above timberline.
We have seen 4 or more Moose at the top of the valley in the past.
