Michael's Story
Freshman class president Monroe High School, Fairbanks, Alaska.
Junior class president, St. Joseph Central High School, Petersburg, Virginia. Left St. Joe's after a malignant relationship with the faculty, especially Sister Elizabeth Ann. Went to Prince George High School where I tried hard to stay under the radar. I took honors English which I enjoyed and did well in; French which I did okay in; and Physics which I did not do well in through no fault of the teacher who was excellent. i graduated from Prince George on schedule in 1968.
I graduated from the University of Houston in 1972 as a Distinguished Military Graduate with a BBA in Accounting.
My first marriage ended after four years and one son (who has turned out great).
I met my second wife of 44 years and counting in Germany. I served in the US Army as an Infantry Officer for 16 years, and as an Army doctor for 7 ye...Expand for more
ars. My wife cut her hand doing dishes and one thing led to another and I separated from the Army to go to medical school on an Army scholarship. I greaduated from Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1992 and then completed an Emergency Medicine Residency at Darnall Army Community Hospital in 1995. I served in Germany and Bosnia after medical school and retired in 1999. I came out of retirement in 2005 to serve as a Battalion Surgeon for the 155th Mississippi Rifles in Iraq. Upon my return from Iraq, I joined VA where I served as an Emergency Physician in until my second retirement in 2019. I have continued to serve parttime through the Covid crisis.. I have a son, a daughter and three grandchildren. I read a lot and try to hit Planet Fitness 3-4 times weekly (though you'd never know it to look at me). I'm a lector in my Catholic church, St. Mary's in Temple, Texas.
