Michael's Story
Life
I'm currently working a startup of a small re-powering project at a power plant site in CT. I hope to be home by the April 2, 2011.
My Spouse, Sharon:
A great lady to have put up with me for so long, almost 37 years now.
My Kids
The oldest (Mike) is married and has 4 daughters and a son, and lives in CT. The youngest (Zeke) is a former US Marine, married (no children) and is an engineering student at UMKC working on his masters degree.
After retiring from the navy in 1990 I took a position with GE as a field engineer in MO (Steve Ritter was my boss), then took a position as a project manager of several power generation plants (office in CT), then position as a director of asset management for an independent power producer in Amarillo, TX.
In 1999 Sharon and I bought a 40 acre lot in the Ozarks of south central Missouri, 16 miles east of Lebanon. (I have since added an additional 38 adjacent acres.) We settled in and...Expand for more
I goofed off for a couple of years, then was offered an opportunity to write and conduct the operator training course and work startups for new construction power plants. I have been doing that off and on since 2001. I have since added biodiesel production facilities to my scope.
I do a project or so a year and go back to goofing off between jobs. (We enjoy this arrangement very much.) I deer and turkey hunt and fish the local ponds and rivers. I normally raise a nice garden (if I'm home for the summer) and can a few items from the garden. I have a small cabinet shop and build items for friends and a few things to sell when I've got some slack time.
College
Did 3+ semesters at MU-Rolla before dropping out. Finished at MU-Columbia with a BSEE, courtesy of Uncle Sam and the USN.
Military
Twenty years in the USN, enlisted in '70 (I had a single digit draft lottery number) and retired in '90 as a lieutenant commander (O4).
