Michael's Story
Life
Hi all,
After graduating from NHS in 1959, I spent two years at Napa JC, graduating in 1961.
I went to work for IBM in San Jose in August 1961. I was with IBM until March 1979, when I left to do consulting and contract work, which I have been doing ever since. My whole IBM career was spent at locations between San Jose and Menlo Park. I did have some temporary assignments elsewhere in the US and in Australia but I have always had my home in the South Bay. I worked full-time at IBM and went to school part-time at SJS in the early sixties.
In 1964, I married Lynda Minkler (NHS 1961) and we had two daughters. Nicole was born in 1967 and Tasha in 1970. They moved with their mother and stepfather to Corvallis, Oregon, in 1975. They both grew up and went to school there and in Eugene. Nikki moved with her family to Colorado Springs in 1998 and Tasha and her husband moved there a year later.

Tasha and her husband, Jim Mulder, adopted a baby girl from China in 2004. Her name is Lily and she is a real charmer.
Lynda and I were divorced about 1973 or so. I married again, in 1979, to Carol Peterson, until 1988.
I am still working to extend my (forty-five year) career in computers, or Data Processing, or Information Technology or whatever they are calling it now. I canÂt really afford to retire but I donÂt think that I would do very well at that anyway. I have been living in Los Gatos since 1980 so maybe it is time for a change, but not retirement.
I think that my career is somewhat remarkable in that I have spent over forty years working in technology in Silicon Valley (since BEFORE there was a SV), and I have never come close to being rich, even on paper. Oh, well.
