Michael's Story

Hello Everyone...!
A lot of you from my 7th grade year back through elementary school will remember me by the nickname of "Corky." God, I haven't used that name since 7th grade; but, it seems everyone knew it. It has been HELL trying to dump that name...hehe.
I will tell you a little something. No, I won't go back to my 7th and 8th grade years...too far! But I will go back to my high school years. I received a couple emails saying they could not find me in the 1970 yearbook, so I will expand here.
I quit Normandy in 1969 and went into the Marine Corps. It was in the Corps that I got my GED. I served my time and returned to St. Louis. So, you will have to go to yearbooks previous to 1970 to see a photo of me.
Now, let's move forward....
I soon ended up in Dallas, Texas. I broke my neck in 1984. After several surgeries and years of physical therapy it was suggested to me that I go back to school. Imagine, me, going to college.
I enrolled in Eastfield Community College and got an Associates of Arts and Sciences degree. It was there where I met a couple of incredibly wonderful teachers, Dr. Virginia Brumbach and Dr. Glen Clayton. Through them I fell in love with literature and philosophy; reading, writing, and studying. I came to love what I had so despised during my high school years...education.
Juxtaposed with my studies at Eastfield Community College I took classes at Richland Community College, and through the magic of transferred credits, after a short time, I also received an Associates of Applied Arts and Sciences in Construction Technology and Engineering degree.

my credits to the University of Texas at Dallas where I then received my undergraduate degree in Literature as well as a Master of Arts in Literature. Just recently (2008) I received a Master of Arts in Foreign Studies degree from Guangzhou Normal University in Guangzhou, China. (Look on the map, Guangzhou is very near Hong Kong.)
Well, anyhow, to the present....
I am single and have been for many years. In the past seven years I've been to 25-countries including Russia, Ukraine, Germany, Austria, well... virtually much of Europe. A lot of South America, Central America, and now China.
I live in Chongqing which is in the southwest part of China. Most of you will know this city by the name of Chungking; home of the Flying Tigers during WWII; a city with an incredibly colorful history. I have now been in China for the past three years. I chose to live in China for the present time because of the culture, customs/traditions, and the history. It is an absolutely fascinating country; an adventure every day!
I teach American Literature, English, and American Culture and Politics at Chongqing University. I also teach English at a local private school. It keeps me very busy.
Well, that's about it...enough, right? I hope this answers the questions of the many emails I have received. I am constantly amazed that I am even remembered by so many. I don't understand.
