Michael's Story
I was good friends with Tim Dodt and Richard Bugni back in junior high (O.E. Dunckel). Rick moved away before high shcool and Tim went off the deep end and dropped out of high school. So not having any close friends left, I joined the swim team at North. Kept me busy and I got a lot of good exercise. Unfortunately, I didn't push myself in practice and never amounted to much on the team.
Went to Oakland Community College, working part time at the K-mart on Orchard Lake Rd. south of 14 Mile Rd., then transferred to U of M - Dearborn where I got a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Electrical Engineering) in 1978. Got a job at General Motors Truck and Coach Division in Pontiac (later renamed to GM Truck & Bus Group), in the Process Control Dept. of IT in 1978, then was forced to transfer to EDS 7 years later, Jan. of 1985. Left 15 months later and took a job at Ford Motor Company in Technology Planning. In the meantime I married my lovely wife, the former Carole Klosterman of Flushing, Michigan, in August of 1983, got my M.S. in Computer Engineering from Wayne State in 1989, had four lovely daughters along the way, and then took early retirement ...Expand for more
from Ford after 21 years in Feb. of 2007. Working very part time now for a couple of charities, doing web development and general IT support. The job market in Michigan sucks.
Carole and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary this past August 20th, 2008.
We are practicing Catholics, and my wife and I home-schooled all four of our daughters, from the first grade.
My oldest daughter, Sarah Anne, is 22 and finishing up a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music (organ) at Eastern Michigan University, and is currently working as a church organist.
My second oldest daughter, Teresa Marie, is 20 and attending Oakland Community College (with a 3.9 G.P.A.), getting ready to apply for pharmacy school.
My third oldest, Mary Frances, is 17 and beginning her second year of Oakland Community College and has not decided what her major will be.
My youngest, Karen Elizabeth, is 15 and still being home-schooled (but has finished Algebra II). Now if only I can get her to take Calculus . . .
Update Sept. 2009: Teresa has started at Wayne State's Pharmacy school -- 4 years to go. Mary has transferred to Georgetown College in Georgetown, Kentucky. We miss her a lot.
