Remarried in 1982 to the former Barbara Nelligan (Lindenhurst H. S. Class of 1977).We purchased Deli's. in Port Washington and then in Islip, sold them in 1986 , then moved to New Port Richey Florida, went to work for the Pasco County Sheriff's Office, earned rank of Lieutenant. ALSO WORKED FOR the Pinellas Sheriff's office in Clearwater as the Food Service Monitor until retiring Feb.2009. I also had a Deli/Catering business in Clearwater, Florida which I sold September,2002. Now retired and enjoying the Florida lifestyle. We have two wonderful boys (26 & 28) We live on the Pithlachascotee River and enjoy boating. I also enjoy golf and manage to play about three times per week since selling the Deli.. I still have my 1964 Studebaker Daytona, I purchased new but stopped using it because of the oil fumes (306,000 miles). That will be my rebuilding project when I retire in a few years. 👍---- Update; Restored the car from March 2009 until finishing in Nov.2009.Purchased a future retirement/vacation house on Tybee Island Ga. in 2009. Decided to try Georgia living full time in July 2013, rented the Florida house for one possibly two years and moved to Tybee full time. After living in Florida for over 27 years, we thought we should Try the cooler winters in Georgia before committing to full time residence.

Update 06/27/23, just eight months away from turning eighty, reflecting on the previous 66 years and future plans. We moved to East Norwich in 1956, I was twelve years old, being the oldest boy, I immediately became the caretaker, mowing lawns in the summertime and plowing snow during the winter months at many local customers on Highwood Road in the surrounding areas at 13 took on a paper route, Newsday, and at 15 started working at Associated food stores. My greatest influence and hero from fifth grade to Senior was the infamous, multi talented, Mr. Eric Bohn who mentored me and made arraig...Expand for more
nments for me to spend my entire summer between my Junior and Senior years attending General Motors Automotive Training Center in Union, N. J.
Well, I totally immersed myself in learning the auto mechanics, world of wonder. Immediately went to work starting with Chamberlain Chevrolet, a few other dealers and a brand new international tire center in Farmingdale, after two years, the owners told me they were selling the business, I was devastated. Went home and told Gail that I wasn’t sure I was gonna have a job. Unbelievably, she said, why don’t you buy the business? I never thought I could even do that after just purchasing a house. Here I was at 23 yo. Taking on a hugh challenge ! That certainly was a great opportunity and brought us success and a gorgeous five bedroom colonial in the heart of Dix Hills, which Gail & I sold in 1981 after our divorce. Soon after during the times of private Auto Repair Shops being turned into convenience, stores. I sold the auto repair business and purchased my first delicatessen in Port, Washington, a year later, someone offered me four times more than I paid for it, guess what I sold it! The month before I purchased the delicatessen I bought a house in Copiague that needed work as I was working on the house a real estate agent canvassing the neighborhood yelled up to me as I was on the roof with a hole cut out for a doghouse
Dormer “ is the house for sale”? Guess what? I sold the house three weeks later. Now reality is setting in. I don’t have a job any longer and in two months I won’t have a house.
I married Barbara the year before and we decided to look for a house and a business in Sag Harbor. We found a little restaurant for sale and about a mile away the harbormasters house, which backed up to a 2500 acre, natural preserve. We backed out of both deals, the house, because it had Formaldehyde based insulation in it, and Barbara was susceptible to migraines and the restaurant because they could not sell the property, it was owned by the city. Disappointed we were driving back home to Copiague. Barbara was looking at the classified ads, which shocked me, as reading in a moving car certainly didn’t agree with her. Suddenly she said look at this ad the three-bedroom ranch house on a half acre of property with a delicatessen in Islip! That was the combo we purchased a house and a job for both of us. Delicatessens are a tremendous amount of work consuming 15 hours a day, but it was a gold mine. Guess what? We sold the delicatessen and the house decided to move to New Port Richey, Florida where Barb went to work as the Human Resource Director at Montgomery Wards and I went to the police academy at the old age of 43, laughing !
Guess what? After 11 years I decided to retire from the Pasco County sheriffs office, where I was the food service Director. Guess what? I got very bored and opened up a delicatessen and catering business. I invited Barbara‘s brother Danny down from New York to be a partner in the deli! Guess what? Two years later a opportunity arose and I decided to go to work for Pinellas County sheriffs office, which was a mile away from the deli. and worked there for another 10 years until retiring in 2009..
Three months after retiring, Barb and I came to Tybee Island to visit Florida friends ! Guess what? We purchased a vacation house, traveled back-and-forth from Florida to Tyb until 2013 decided to move to Tyb full-time and in 2015 we sold the Florida house and purchased a condominium on Tyb..
So reflecting back, during the 40 years, Barbara and I have been married, we’ve had 10 houses and six businesses we were actually “ Flipping “ before we knew what it meant! Certainly has been a thrilling ride for a dumb high school dropout! I hope the next 40 years is as exciting,
