Michael's Story
Life
In 1977 I left California and moved to the San Juan Islands near Victoria British Columbia, and built a large Marina, I owned and operated it for about 10 years before selling it and sailing off to explore the vast waters of the South Pacific... Like most of my generation, the TV series "Adventures In Paradise" was intoxicating and romantic....
When I returned some 5 years later, I settled into Island life and living on the waterfront in the home I built when I moved here some 28 years ago, and am still sailing the vessel that I went exploring on that I have owned for 24 years... I am still single after 25 years since my divorce, my daughter graduated from college in 2003, and I have a son 37 with three children, all are doing very well....
The last 15 years have been very busy, I have made 6 trip to Australia and traveled much of its coastline. I attended the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, I spend 6 weeks and enjoying every...Expand for more
minute. What a great city it is, and so very friendly.
I now spend most of my time on the Island, sailing and exploring, presently I am building a new guesthouse and doing a complete refit of my sailing vessel, its a Garden designed Clipper 46, very traditional all Teak sailing ketch S/V Manu o ku built in 1971 -72. Having turned 60 in 2005 keeping up this activity level is reminding me that I am not 40 any longer...
Military
I served 8 years in the Army, first I went to Paratrooper jump school, later I served in Korea when President Kennedy was assinated... I served in Germany twice, once before Viet Nam and once after... Viet Nam was the testing of ones strength and one's charactor, as an Infantry platoon Sargeant I saw more than one young man should ever see, I lost many of my platoon... And Clayton Valley High lost many of its own, including some of my friends.. It was hard not to loose part of one's humanity in such choas...
