Michael's Story
Life
Two careers , co-existing side by side , from the world of make believe , to the real reality of Police Story . In 1973 , I landed a job in the transportation end of the Motion Picture / TV Industry , quite by accident and 34 years later , still going strong .
Transportation handles all the drivers , trucks , filming equipment , props and actor pickups to and from the sets and locations , in or out of the state and all across the country . Were known as the Hollywood Teamsters #399 .
My job , I have worked as a studio driver and as a transportation captain , which is the supervisor on the set for all transpo logistics , pertainng to that particular production being filmed .Working in the "Biz" , requires me to hold membership in three different guilds , Teamsters , Screen Actors , Stuntmens Assn.
I have been personal driver to Mel Gibson , Clint Eastwood , Rene Russo and Gene Hackman .The most funny and warmest actor to work with , was John Candy in 1989 on the set of " Delirious" .
The most recent movie I worked on was " Live Free or Die Hard " with Bruce Willis , which comes out this June 2007 , I believe this will be a big block buster and possibly the last in the " Die Hard series .
And yes , he's a nice guy to work with .
I have been married to the same beautiful wife , Cindy , since 1975 and have two great sons , Nicholas and Michael , both in the computer software and telecomunications industry .
My second career , came into play while working on a TV show in 1979 called " 240 Robert " about the Los Angeles Sheriffs Department " Reserve Deputy Sheriffs " , which ho...Expand for more
used Uniformed Patrol Deputies , Mountain Rescue , Sheriffs Posse and Sheriffs Motors .
In 1981 , while a series of labor strikes , hit the Picture Industry for about a year , mainly the Screen Actors Guild and Writers, I entered the Los Angeles Sheriffs Academy for six months and became part of their family and today , twenty-six years later , still working uniform patrol in a Black n White and loving it. I have since stepped up to rank of Reserve Captain . The LASD Reserves are a fully sworn and compensated 2500 Reserve Deputy bureau , backing up 8500 Full time Deputies, biggest Sheriffs Dept. in the United States .
Fox Reality TV , is premiering " The Academy " on their cable channel , which gives you an inside view , of the training and what it takes , to become a Los Angeles County Deputy Sheriff . LASD is on , one of their biggest hiring campaigns , advertising through out the entire country . 2010
Nine years later, I have since retired from the Motion Picture business, with 36 years in the " Biz " and then went back full time with the Los Angeles Sheriff Department, working some patrol, but mainly Detective Bureau ( 290 Section ) overseeing and registering sex offenders and pedophiles, not a very nice part of law enforcement.
Overall, I've had two great careers, side by side for over 35 yrs and would do it again, if there was a second go around. Recently just retired from LASD with 35 yrs service and moved to Texas for retirement with my wife of 40 yrs. to be by my two sons and granddaughter. This is my story, with a happy ending.
