Michael's Story
Life
Marriage. Fatherhood. Still trying to find out what I want to be when I grow up.
"Like faces that are woven in the fabric of my consciousness."
Some things have changed, some things have not, ...
THINGS THAT HAVE NOT:
I still love to listen to and play music (band geek!)
I am still a die-hard Mets fan and enjoy watching most sports.
I am still full of cynicism for such things as American society, culture, economics, religion and politics.
I still love to write.
I still find more energy alone/ in small groups than large gatherings.
THINGS THAT HAVE:
I actually like listening to some CLASSIC rock.
My politics--I am now a "green" or "socialist" (basically the same philosophy).
I would consider the label of "hippie" as a compliment.
I am a spiritual eclectic, but most closest to Zen-Buddhism.
I am much more accepting of the values, beliefs, culture, ... of others.
Does, "greater knowledge of self," sound too conceited(?)?
My first job out of grad. school was as a clinical social worker with hospice. This job, the clients I served and the people I worked with had a profound i...Expand for more
mpact on both my personal and professional growth.
"Life is what happens while you're making other plans." May you find peace and inner harmony in your life.
College
I suppose I learned alot from my first roommate. He was quite judgemental, condescending and had a different conception of what the goal of college was than I did (staying out until 5:00 AM and sleeping until 5:00 PM the next day, every day).
Workplace
I remember that first job and the few co-workers/ fellow Colonie High students that also worked there, too. I remember the sense of community that gave us both at work and at school. I don't know how I did that work for a year of high school and three years of college!
I have worked/ interned/ volunteered with a number of agencies. I have always learned something from each.
Human services, business, ... or both? I guess my goal is to make the human service field more efficient and considerate of financial goals and to make the business field more conscious of human aspects and community commitment (to balance people AND profits). Maybe I should move to Canada, eh?
