Michael's Story
On graduation in 1968from St. Mary's Univ. I was assigned to Nolan High School and the Fort Worth, TX community. I taught math and physics there for one year under the leadership of Richard Dix & Pierre Whitekamp. I left the Marianist order in June 1969, returned to my hometown of St. Louis and quickly found a teaching position in the Ladue School District teaching junior high math and physical science. I received a NSF Grant for a Mathematics MA from LSU in Baton Rouge LA. I returned to St. Louis to teach a final year at Mary Institute, an all girl exclusiv school, teaching Calculus and other mathematics..
Then in 1973 I moved to New Orleans to pursue a non-teaching career, initially at South Central Bell doing Long Range Planning. Several other jobs included insurance sales
with NY Life (2 yrs) and N.O. Chamber of Commerce (1 yr) before I finally took a position at Entergy in 1981. I worked 35 years as a Senior Staff Analyst for this large electric utility
serving 3 million customers in TX, LA, MS, AR. I primarily coordinate Transmission &
Distribution Benchmarking efforts and other special studies—retirement was in 2015.

l years later. I finally married happily
in 1988 to my wife Kathe, who is an artist and balances my mathematical mind. We
have been through so many adventures throughout our time together, including Hurricane
Katrina, moving permanently to Louisville KY, only to return home to New Orleans a year later. We love the charms of New Orleans and living in older houses, been through many home renovation projects on our many old residences (1885, 1910, and 1925). Although we had no children, we have nineteen nieces & nephews and several great ones, and always have had two resident felines to warm up our home environment.
My involvement with mentoring young high school men goes back to 2004. Other interests include pursuing our genealogy & family history, which my mother started and then entrusted to me. Our family lore was correct that Daniel Boone came to MO and is indeed my maternal 6th great-grandfather. We have had opportunities to travel abroad on many occasions primarily to Spain, but also Paris, & even visiting Grumich cousins in Prague & Detmold, Germany. I now sing in the Symphony Chorus of New Orleans for 8 season, in Florence Italy in 2016 & next in Paris in 2024.
