Life- I write this from Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan (AUG 2004), and the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) intelligence unit I command are conducting an operation near here. At age 56, it amazes me that my life has come to this point from humble beginnings at Washington JHS. I am a Colonel in the Army Reserve and am in the middle of a year's mobilization. We are gearing up for national elections here on 09 OCT 2004 and the battle rhythm has increased. I am also ready to be mandatorily retired as as the Chief United States Probation Officer of the Federal Northern District of Indiana headquartered at Hammond. I received a BA from IU Bloomington and an MA from Valparaiso Universtiy. I am married to the Chief Magistrate of the Lake Superior Court, Juvenile Division, and have a beautiful daughter, age 16, who is quite the athlete at Hobart HS. An update as of NOV 19, 2012: & now for age 65: I retired in NOV 2004 as the Chief U.S. Probation Officer for the Federal Northern District of Indiana in late OCT 2004 while serving in Afghanistan and from the U.S. Army Reserve in NOV 2007. My daughter is still a student at Indiana University in Bloomington, IN and my spouse is still working as the Chief Magistrate Judge for the Lake County (IN), Superior Court, Juvenile Division in Crown Point, IN. After my army retirement at age 60 in late 2007, I was a volunteer for the Secretary of the Army representing and recognizing U.S. Army combat veterans of all campaigns. I have worked loosely with a variety of retired Federal Law Enforcement Agents and have led executive protection details from the Dalai Lama to the President of Notre Dame.
