Michael's Story
After finishing Grade 13 in Jan of 83, I headed out into the world ..YEAH RIGHT ! Ok, I wasted time, partying here and there until it was clear that I needed money so I got a summer job. Even had a one room apartment in Milton the summer before University.
So then it was off to U of T. Low and behold, Mr. Murray was right...YOU DO NEED TO STUDY IN UNIVERSITY....OH DANG !
OK, where else can I go or do ? Next it was the Coast Guard College in Sydney NS. Three years and a few lobotomies later, I graduated, and was posted as a third officer on a ship out of Charlottetown.
Between 87 and 2000 I experienced a lot. Got married, had kids and then, as many of us have, got divorced.
I worked on quite a few ships in the Maritimes, from Third Mate to Captain. Earned my Master Mariner's Certificate! Life changed my direction and took an assignment ashore in Sarnia, Ontario which led to a perma...Expand for more
nent job. Sarnia has became my new hometown. Worked in the office from 2001- 2012, and after my job was cut, I deployed back to the ships as Captain here in the Great Lakes. In 2019 I officially retired from the icebreaker/buoytender CCGS Griffon. I still work for Coast Guard when they need someone to fill in. (2024)
Enjoy home renovation projects, gardening, golfing, bowling, gaming, walking the dogs, hanging out with my wife Gina.

Hey, what can I say,...College was a good place to grow up, get some skills, have fun and wish you were somewhere else the whole time ! I have no regrets...but if I could do it all over again, I would just work my butt off, save my money and wait for the right time to invest in Microsoft when it was only a dollar a share !
