Michael's Story
Honestly can’t really figure this out, I saw a “story” I put in back in 2017 which I had not seen when I did the story I am replacing right now so I won’t go over the same things. Let's see, i didn't go to the 12th grade, so that kind of puts me out of the group. graduated during the summer before and went to work...maybe not the best thing to have done but...it's life now :) lol. So, for the first 15 years or so after school, i had a few jobs (DeKalb County, DeKalb School system, Fernbank Science Center), went to school at night (most of the time, a few quarters (yes then was quarters, during the day) at DeKalb Community College for about 6 years (before that i went to the tech center there for a year or two in automotive mechanics (trying to keep my cars running :) lol. Due to various issues ended up with a motorcycle and that was my only means of transportation for 7 years...that was quite the experience riding around the Atlanta area, north georgia, going to concerts (lost count at 300, saw everyone that came to Atlanta in the mid to late 70's to early 80's). Did pretty well at the community college, got a full scholarship to Berry College in Rome Georgia, really liked that, went 4 years (loved taking classes), graduated summa cum laude (yeah, i was surprised also :) lol). While at Berry, i got a scholarship to go study at the University of Oslo, Norway one summer at the International Summer...Expand for more
School there, pretty cool. Rode the rails and saw about 11 countries in europe that summer. Got a full ride scholarship to Washington State University to get my Masters, finished that in '91. Went back to GA and worked for University of Georgia as an associate professor and county Extension agent in DeKalb Co...go figure. Decided i needed to change places, after some interviews in Wyoming and Colorado got a job with Utah State University Extension and was located in Moab, Utah. If you haven't heard of Moab, it's a major outdoor tourist attraction for people all over the world. Worked there for 25 years, retired, now living in Colorado but looking for another place to go. Don't do anything special, just a calm, mellow life, spend time in Colorado or Bogota, Colombia. Love Colombia, thinking of moving down there more permanent (or i should say more long term rather than back and forth). Time will tell. No, i didn't marry, honestly was just moving around so much and changing my life so much, plus my choices of girlfriends was terrible :) lol. Considering how my life was going after Avondale, i have been very blessed, amazingly lucky, seen so much of the world, done a lot of things, been hither and yon and still kicking although definitely old and worn out these days. I hope my fellow Avondale graduates had great lives and i wish them and their families all the best for the future we all have.
