Michael's Story

Well I didn't come here to reconnect. I came for the memories. To see who was on here and reminisce. Its a little disappointing because so many names are missing but I'm very happy to see the ones who are here. I'll start my story back in early 1981. We moved to Mesquite from Illinois and I had to finish up 8th grade in McDonald middle school. My predominant memories of those few months are three girls. First is Dee Dee Diana Deets. She was my dream girl that year. She was nice and super cute and had a great little figure. She showed it off wearing cool colorful clothes. She was the queen of the dance so to speak. But there was a top contender. The second girls name is Lynette Conely. She was a beautiful blonde with an awesome figure. She was nice ,quiet ,shy and modest. Although she was my #2 some guys would beg to differ. One kid I cant remember his name once told me he would rather have one Lynette than two Dee Dee's. Girl #3 was Dee Richards. She was pretty and attractive and sort of high class, so she seemed somewhat unapproachable. Well that's it for McDonald. I will get back to these three a little later. Now its on to NMHS. I wasn't ever with the in crowd. My friends were mostly comprised of the kids who lived in the same apartment complex . The Coronado East/Garden House apts. A couple of them are on this site. I knew Katie Parker and her little brother Michael. We hung out and partied here and there. I remember she would always comment on how quiet and shy I was. Paul Bagget was a friend. He was cool. A party animal and ladies man. I cant forget racing up and down East Meadows in his mothers stick shift Chevette? He was giving it Hell. If she only knew. Lets get back to our class hotties now. Unfortunately I never had any classes with Dee Dee at NM. But I did get to see her sometimes at sporting events when she was cheerleading. I also never had any classes with Lynette but luckily she rode the same bus that I did freshman year. All my punk buddies and I would sit at the back of the bus. There were a couple of times when Lynette was getting ready to exit on her way home that we would all sing out in unison "goodbye Lynette". She seemed surprised and embarrassed but being a sweet girl she would reply back with a timid "bye". As the bus drove away we would all stare out the back window and watch Lynette walk away. I apologize to her if we ever made her uncomfortable. It's just that every guy loved her and that made us get stupid sometimes. I had Biology freshman year with Dee. She sat right in front of me. Remember, she seemed unapproachable to me. Well one day I found some courage and decided I was gonna get slick and make a move on her. I wasn't too swift, OK. I gave her a little love tap right on her booty. Oops, BIG mistake. She swung around and stared me down with a look of death and said three times consecutively "you better quit". All the while I'm trying to play it off like I did nothing. She stared for a few seconds more and finally swung back around. I exhaled. Needless to say that was the first and last time I ever messed with Dee Richards. There are a few other people on this site that I knew. I sat with Richard Gotthardt [John] in freshman lunch some times. Me and all my other friends were once discussing our ...Expand for more
grades. Fs, Ds, Cs. Then I asked Richard what his grades were. "straight As" he says. He was a smart guy. I see on his profile he eventually earned his masters degree. Congrats. I also believe if I'm not mistaken he was our class Salutatorian. Lisa Reed is on here. I never knew her but I certainly seen her around. She was a cutie . I especially recall seeing her once freshman year making her way past the band area outside in her baton twirling? uniform smiling ear to ear. Oh yeah. She was a cutie. There were a couple of Chapman girls I can't forget. Myself and some others secretly admired Beth. We tried to talk to her a couple times. She was nice and spoke with us but she was really shy as I recall and probably uneasy about our advances and so those conversations just sort of fizzled out. Then there was Leann. I hope that's spelled right. She was in my drivers ed class sophomore yr. She was a gorgeous blonde. A knockout. And I stayed infatuated from start to finish in that class. There was some guy there also that she knew (Brian Costa) I think and was always talking to her. So I never got much of a chance to. Don't know if I woulda got the nerve anyway. I listened in plenty though and I remember once she was revealing how she snuck out of her bedroom window to go out and be a bad girl. WOW. She did seem like a wild one. I saw her profile on this site and she at 40ish is still just as beautiful if not more so. The years have been kind to her as they say. She married a lucky man. Unfortunately, guys , her profile is no longer on this site. Removed for some reason. There's one more girl I want to give a shout out to. To give her some props. And that's Kim Cavender. The first time I saw her she walked into one of my classes between bells and just stood at the front of the aisle waiting for one of her friends for a minute or so. It was love at first sight. For me that is. I don't think she noticed me. Anyway she had a great look. She had a petite little runners build. She was fair with dark features (hair and eyes). Her look was different and interesting. I had no idea then but today I might guess a Latin and European mix. No matter though. She appealed to me one way or the other. There were no classes together but as luck would have it I got to work with her at Kroger senior yr. I got to know her some and she was really nice. She would always talk to ya and treat you like a friend. By the end of the school year we both quit and I never seen nor heard of her again. Oh well I hope she's had a wonderful life up to this point and I wish her all the best in the future. I'd better end this thing soon . Its gotten way too long. Just a couple more things I almost forgot. I must mention Rhonda Hartman. She was definitely one of our class hotties. And if I'm not mistaken Dee Dee DEETS really was the queen of the dance. She was either the prom or homecoming queen. Which, I cant remember. As far as the rest of my story. After graduation I spent 4 yrs in the Army as a Stinger missile gunner at Ft. Bliss El Paso Tx. Never went to war but I did get to travel some. Germany, Alabama, New Mexico, Arizona. Then it was 2 yrs of college in Illinois. Associate in electronics. Then I came home to Mesquite and I've been working full time ever since. Hope to retire early soon. Yeah right. Best of luck to all the Stallions. How'd it go. NM. HS. NMHS Grrreat.
