Michael's Story
Okay, let's see. I've been kind of busy the past 40 years. I've done the following work during that time:
- College Ungraduate (3 different colleges)
- Hospital Orderly
- Dockworker
- UPS Driver
- Factory Worker
- Restaurant Peon and Manager
- Retail Peon and Manager
- Trucking Dispatcher
- Professional Videographer
- Cable TV Cameraman
- Screenwriter
- Advertising Copywriter
- Social Services Worker
- Video Equipment Rental Agent
- Computer Programmer/Web Developer
I actually counted one day and realized to my chagrin that I've just started the 40th job I've had in those 40 years. No wonder I'm so freaking exhausted!
Actually, since I got into computer programming nearly 20 years ago, that has been the only kind of work I've done. So I'm not really the job-hopping "loser" it would appear I am.
Still, I've never been a person who defines himself by his vocations. Instead it is my family and my avocations that give my life meaning and focus.
In this regard, I have two fabulous and very different daughters: one is (excuse my fatherly pride) a brilliant scientist working in the biotech industry in Austin, Texas and the other is a wonderful Massage Therapist and spiritual seeker who works in Aspen, Colorado and who spent six months ...Expand for more
in India in 2008.
For the past couple of years, I been surprised to find myself something of a spiritual seeker as well after a lifetime of skeptical inquiry.
My journey began many years ago with my interest in quantum physics and progressed quite naturally towards larger questions of Consciousness and alternate realities of existence after reading the works of physicists like Fritjof Capra, David Bohm, David Peat, Fred Alan Wolf, Werner Heisenberg and others.
In my current journey of Self-discovery, I've studied core shamanism, holotropic breathwork, energy work and many other areas of knowledge I formerly found bogus and not worthy of my serious attention.
What I've found to my delight is that you CAN teach an old dog new tricks. And some of these tricks are absolutely astounding. As one of my intellectual and spiritual heroes, Terence McKenna, once said, "The truth is not only stranger than you imagined, it's stranger than you CAN imagine."
I've actually spent the last two years writing a blog chronicling my Search for Knowledge.
If you're at all intrigued, feel free to visit it at epignosis.blogspot.com.
And that in a nutshell, dear friends and acquaintances from my past, is what I've been up to for the past 40 years.
