Michael Laurie's Story
Life
Living in San Francisco is fun; I worked in public sector for 16 years after college professoring. I left teaching to "just do it" -organization development in "Re-inventing Government" era- AKA "teaching the elephant to dance." I retired and retired again from a planning position at San Francisco State University!
In 2006 we (four partners) moved to a new home- buying in SF. After looking for several years at gorgeous homes that cost millions, I was walking three blocks from our apartment on a great street and there she was --an 1899 Victorian...21 days later after a three-day sudden death playoff (some guy had 1/2 a $mil in cash) we bought the building in Noe Valley (great SF walking neighborhood). Our San Francisco location is a daily joy. Then there is the gardening. Finally I have Dirt !Now we Condo-ized into two flats...new neighbors from France/Taiwan live upstairs.
I was married long ago, my son Dustin is a great guy, his wife Kyra is wonderful. We enjoyed a fairy tale destination wedding in Italy - June 2008. Now their baby boy is almost 3 and girl is 5 months. Dustin is a corporate sales star, they live nearby and are remodeling their house. We share Magnum the Swissie (130 pounds of cutiedog). My mother and sister Becky and family live in southern WA State. I'm up there a lot.
I ...Expand for more
like music and art; street fairs and jazzfests are my favorite. I have a symphony friend and a Theater buddy to share performances. I like to travel for fun.
High School 1962: True, I went to college after Jr.Year but you're the only class I have! I was the girl nick-named Myke then. I attended 2002 reunion and realized how much of people's HS memory occurred in Senior year. I may have missed a lot -- but I remember many of you even though we were 16!!That was ancient History!! But I am still curious about your life. E-dress= mbishowatearthlinkdotnet
Workplace
My paid time is spent teaching (Skyline College) and consulting. Re-retiring from SFSU San Francisco State University academic assessment was ...well, necessary. I still teach at Skyline College to stay "human."
California budget woes dissolved my organizational change internal consulting job in 2004; my whole career went BLU-ee. From innovation and change management in public sector to "early" retire, I was in a full dive. Fortunately after three years of part time I recovered a full time position. Then BLUE-ee again. Phew! ANd I'm no longer a national consultant in health care because after 12 years of work paid for by big Pharma, contract training in health care was cut when the whole industry "realigned." Work Life is sure a challenge!
