Michael's Story
Life
Wow, where to start.... I now live in a small community approximately 35 miles North of Atlanta, Georgia, on Lake Lanier. I am the father of three beautiful girls (18 / 10 / 4), with my elder daughter just starting College at Georgia College & State University. My two youngest daughters are living with their mother about 50 miles away. I try to keep my girls as close to me as possible! I have been married since May of 2006 and am currently living life very hapily.
I left the Army in January 2003, after serving 7.5 years on active duty and 8 years with the National Guard, I have seen the Desert of Saudi Arabia with Operation Southern Watch (1998) and the "Land of the Morning Calm"(2000)
Through my travels in life, I have set foot on 5 of the 7 continents, 13 Foreign Countries, and 31 different States, and I have found the Southeast is where I love to be.
I am extremely active with the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9143 in Cumming. I also belong to the Disabled American Veterans. Veterans issues are extremely important in my life, being a disabled veteran.
School
Well, I bounced around between four elementary schools all around the Eastern Half of Broome County (C.R. Weeks in West Windsor, Donnley in Conklin, Cedarhurst is Kirkwood, and Coolidge in Binghamton), Spent time at both of Binghamton's Jr. High Schools (Mostly East Jr.), and then Binghamton High. I actually miss the 80's and those care free High School Days. I missed our 10 Year Reunion, due to my service to the nation and never found out about the 20 year reunion until after the fact. So I am looking forward to the next one, so if you hear anything please email me! I also have Created a BHS Class of 1987 Group on Facebook, so if you were BHS '87 go and join the more than 100 of us already there!
College
Well, I found out after two years at Broome Tech, that I cannot be a full-time student, and work full-time, so I slowed my college down to the point it took me 4 years to get my Associate's Degree in Accounting. But while I was stationed in South Korea, I decided to take a few management courses through the University of Maryland, and was able to maintain a 3.67 GPA. I hope to, once things turn a little better in life to go to the Gainesville State College (17 miles away) and finish my Business Administration Degree, and possibly follow my eldest daughter and become a teacher.
Workplace
The vast majority of my work experience comes from my 15 years of military service, but during my 8 National Guard years I worked in a variety of different places, doing a variety of different jobs, from grocery clerk, to Pizza Delivery, to Tax Preparation Office Manager, to Warehouse worker, to Go-Kart track worker, to HVAC inst...Expand for more
aller, to Sheet Metal Worker to Retail Management, to Security, to Pest Control Technician, to my current as a factory worker. The three worst working periods were January through February 1996, when I was working two full-time jobs totaling about 20 hours a day; March 27, 1997, when I almost lost my left hand in an industrial accident; and then lastly, January through June 1998, when I was assigned to a Patriot Missile Battery in Saudi Arabia (Too Damn HOT). Since I left the military I was employed with Walgreens as an Assistant Manager, I also did a brief stint in the security industry at a Japanese Manufacturing Plant, I have also worked in the Pest Control Industry, personal lending industry, a few more retail positions and then Back again to H&R Block. But I am now trying to get my Second Small Business off the Ground, after my first business failed in 2004 and losing nearly $30,000 over 3 years. I am following the teachings of Robert Kiyosaki's Rich Dad, Poor Dad and started a second business and I will have my assets work for me. If anyone is interested in a small business opportunity, read that book and then contact me (877) 313-9560.
Military
Well, I first enlisted into the US Army on August 25, 1987 and served my first Active Duty Stint at the following Locations: Fort Sill, Oklahoma; Fort Dix, New Jersey; and Fort Hood, Texas. I then went into the New York Army National Guard in 1989, got to go to Fort Drum so many times, I swear the mosquitoes knew me by name, and also got to do time in Coban, Guatemalla, and Staten Island for the Blizzard of 1996, and lastly and most importantly the 1996 Olympic Games here in Georgia. After Moving to Georgia in 1996, after the Olympics, I worked on going back into the Army. I was finally able to get back into the Army in July of 1997, and was given the following assignments: Fort Bliss, Texas (July 1997 - Dec 1999) with a deployment to Prince Sultan Air Base in Al-Karj, Saudi Arabia (Jan - Jun 1998); Camp Humphrey's, outside of An-Jung-Ri, South Korea (Dec 1999 - Dec 2000); and lastly Fort Gordon, Georgia (Dec 2000 - Jan 2003), with Temporary duty assignments at Fort Jackson, S.C. and Fort Benning, GA for military schools. I was finally Discharged from the Army on January 2, 2003, due to "Medical Disabilities", I am now considered a Disabled Veteran. The one thing I will emphasize to my daughters when they come of age to consider military service, to not consider the Army or Marine Corps, as they destroy the human body through the training.
Me and my family are members of Browns Bridge Community Church (in Cumming Georgia), which is one campus of North Point Ministries, which is led by Pastor Andy Stanley. h t t p : //w w w. brownsbridge.o r g
