Michael's Story
Life
I lived my early years in the northwest side of Chicago, Near Devon and NewCastle Ave ( remember Imlay Park and Ice skating?). I went to Onahan public school for kindergarten (1956).
We moved to New York (Long Island) for my 1st and 2nd grade and I went to St Andrew Avaleno. Summer of 1959 we moved back to Chicago and I went to St Thecla for 3rd through 8th grade.
!965 I started at Holy Cross HS (all boys) in River Grove, then the end of the Belmont electric bus line (remember the buses stopping when the "ears" came off) and right next to Mother Guerin (all girls). I worked the service club and was at most of the games.
After HS I went to Wright City College (Chicago) where I succeeded in coming out of my shell but got WAB's (withdrawal because of excessive absence) on alot of classes ( I was MIA in those days for many classes). I met my future wife Joyce through friends at Wright and we married in 1973. This straightened my academic life out and I got an AA from Wright in 1981. I started night school at DePaul and finished my BA in sociology finally in 1994, just before our dau...Expand for more
ghters 4th birthday.
In 1974 I started at AT&T (Canal to those who know) in the mailroom, moved through clerical positions and became a technician (311 Washington Chicago 1) in February of 1980. Management called in 1996 and finally in 2003 they gave me an offer I could not refuse and "retired".
Looking for something to do (and support the family (Dennis came in 1995) ) I started substitute teaching, went to National-Louis in 2004 and got my Masters in teaching in 2005 (Elementary k through 9). Still subbing and looking I took a full time position at Saint Lukes in Chicago. In August 2018 I took a position at Saint Ferdinand School teaching middle school history, and I am still there.
My son works at Marianos on Lawrence.
Through it all Joyce and I have been scout leaders with many (hundreds?) passing through our care. We are both surprised time to time when one of our scouts come to us with their child(ren) :)
hope all is well
Joyce and I will celebrate 48 years years (OMG) on June 30th 2021. Our daughter is 31 and our son is 30. Grandson Xander is 8.
THANKS!
Mike
